Hi ladies, well me and my partner have been ttc for some time now and decided to get some help.
We went to see the GP who referred us to hospital for fertility checks, firstly I had bloods taken, next appointment came through the for yesterday, 17th may for an internal vaginal scan at which point the doctor told me I have PCOS. I didn't know much about it but over the last 24hours I've researched like mad as I am totally and utterly devastated.
I have found that it is pretty common and read some comforting success stories.

I am awaiting my OH to have his seven analysed and then August we go back to discuss all results and treatment/medication.

Feeling really low right now and a little embarrassed to tell anyone in my family as I feel like a failure.

Anyone got any advice for me. Any one in the same boat as me?
Right now I'm feeling so alone.
My OH is being amazing I have to say xx

I'm in the UK (Hampshire) and was also diagnosed with PCOS in about May last year. It's nothing to be embarrassed about :)

They can do so much to help PCOS, i was actually relieved and happy when I was diagnosed. They took 2 years to even look into it as I already have a daughter (conceived young, apparently before the PCOS would have started causing problems) and I was at the end of my rope, so I was happy.

PCOS has an answer :) Most women with PCOS go on to have children. I was put on Metformin in May last year - 1000mg a day, and that was upped to 1500mg a day in January this year. I conceived in February, though I sadly miscarried in April (nothing to do with the PCOS, simply unavoidable really, chromosomal abnormalities)

As far as I know, metformin is the first step in the UK, though if that doesn't work (or if your hormonal imbalance is large - mine was only very slightly imbalanced) you may be put on clomid. If neither of those works, they have Laparoscopic Ovarian Drilling, which I have heard is very effective (I have a friend who tried 8 years for a baby, had LOP and conceived next cycle.)

Like I said, look at it as a positive :) You've clearly been TTC for a while, and this is a problem that has a solution. 1 in 5 women has PCOS and there are quite a few women on these forums who has it, so you'll have loads of support.

Good Luck :) I hope you get your BFP soon! :hugs:

I was told I have PCOS when I was in my early 20s and that the likelihood of us conceiving with out fertility treatment would be very slim... After 8 months trying (without any assistance) I fell pregnant and had my first little boy, being highly fertile after birth I got pregnant straight after having him and got my second little boy. Have since had a little girl and am expecting my 4th now. Some people do hVe difficulty with PCOS but not everyone so stay positive :flower:

I was diagnosed with PCOS in January of this year. My DH and I have been ttc since March of last year and my last couple of un-regulated cycles (without progesterone treatments) lasted upwards of 70 days. It was miserable and disheartening, so please know you aren't going through this alone. The previous ladies are right, PCOS affects everyone differently. For example, I was also put on Metformin to try to regulate my cycles, but I could not tolerate it as it made me extremely ill! I am on my first round of clomid now so I'm trying to stay positive! One thing I've learned...don't be too afraid to reach out for support whether it be on forums or through friends or family!

I was diagnosed with PCOS this year. Many women on BnB have PCOS and have gone to have successful pregnancies. I don't ovulate or have periods on my own. After starting Clomd I ovulated for the first time and then had a period to follow. I am not on my second cycle of Clomid and it is working well for me. Don't feel like you have to tell anyone about your PCOS, that is your business! I told my mother and sister that I have an endochrine disorder and left it at that. There is a great website PCOSdietsupport.com that will give you tons of scientific information on how dietary and lifestyle changes with the addition of some supplements can help greatly with regulating your hormones. Good luck with everything and don't feel like a failure! You have a very good shot at getting pregnant with PCOS.

I was diagnosed with pcos in 2011 after 2 yrs of ttc and one miscarriage. My periods completely stopped after I miscarried. They put me on metformin and then after several months they tried provera to give me a period an started me on clomid. It was hit or miss with me ovulating on clomid, sadly I didnt get pregnant with the treatments. I started taking bee pollen everyday and I was surprised to get my periods back after a couple of months. So my doctor wanted us to try clomid again, still didn't help us conceive. I stopped clomid after July 2013, the doctors said we would have to try iui or ivf. We decide to wait until the following year to look into adoption. I ended up missing my period on November and I thought it was due to the pcos but decided to take a test and was very surprised to see it was positive! My son will be 2 at the end of July :) When he was 6 months old we decided to ntnp because we assumed it would take awhile since it took 6 yrs to get our son, and surprise we fell pregnant just before his 1st birthday. We had our little girl this past April :) there is hope even with pcos!

I was diagnosed with pcos a few months back, after ttc for a year I had ocos in the back of my mind because my mother has it also and she's had three babies. I just passed my first cycle with metformin and clomid which didn't stick. Were taking a month for ourselves with just the metformin and see if I even ovulate this cycle.

It can be quite a crushing thought, tonhave pcos, but it's not the end. I've only told few of my family, and I know plenty of family friends who have plcos as well.

For me it brought a ton of answers, including reasons for period of depression and severe mood swings, along with weight gain that doesn't seem to have a cause or a reverse function.

Dh support is the best thing to have.

Hugs, hangs in there!

Pcos here too just got diagnosed 2 months ago. Been TTCing for 4 years not medicated or treated. This cycle I am on femera and I used a trigger shot. Currently 7dpo. There are definitely treatments so I'm remaining hopeful and positive.

Thanks for your replies ladies, i came off for a coupe of months until all tests were complete.

Heres the latest.

OH has had his :spermy: tested and we are told its good, so that's a binus. We were told figures but it made no difference to us, to hear its in perfect working order is enough for me.

I had some blood work to see whether i was ovulating and have been told the progesterone levels confirmed anovulation, which kind of wanted as i didn't want to go straight to IVF which is what our consultant told us would happen if i was ovulating.

Anyway, last week i was prescribed 100mg Clomiphene, to be taken on CD2-CD6. I have never wanted the :witch: to come so desperately! The :witch: is due around 11th October, but my cycles are irregular so who knows when she will actually show up

I've just been told I could have PCOS, but I am just waiting on an ultrasound to confirm it. My fasting insulin was way too high, and my FSH over LH ratio was too high too, but that was the only thing that was abnormal so they have to confirm it by ultrasound.

I'm in same boat as you, hoping for AF to show so I can book in! Never thought I'd want it so bad ha ha.

Good luck :)

Good luck with the clomid!!! I really hope it works for you! It has very high success rates. I also have PCOS. It is so frustrating, but I'm thankful that there are medicines that can help us!

Ive started Clomid as :witch: came a day early, something is on my side haha i am never early.

Anyway im in CD4, so day 3 of Clomid, will be taking that until Saturday.

I am also temping orally, however my chart is displayed in my signature and maybe some chart experts could shed some light as to what the hell that huge peak is, seems that this morning my temp went back to normal but i'd imagine i need to see a few days on my chart to get a better idea.

How are you ladies coping?
x :dust: x

When I took clomid (I also have PCOS) my chart went crazy til a day or two after the last dose. Good luck on it!

Just wanted to say, I hope you are all getting on well.

Being told you have PCOS can feel really disheartening and upsetting. When I was sixteen, I went to hospital for scans as I wasn't having regular periods. I was told I have PCOS and also told I may have difficulty conceiving. Being told that at 16 - I was upset. Spent all these years feeling that me and hubby probably won't ever be parents.

Over the years, though, I saw friends and people online who had PCOS and they went on to eventually have beautiful children. I was personally stunned when after only a couple of months of being off the pill and trying to conceive, I fell pregnant. It's early days though.

I'm just sharing this to give people encouragement. There is always hope and many people with PCOS go on to have a family.

Good luck, all x

Thank you! It's very early days, to be honest. Only just over five weeks pregnant. I didn't need treatment because it happened so quickly, but I was mentally prepared for needing treatment because of my PCOS.

I came to know of others over the years who, with treatment and sometimes without, ended up with a baby - even if it takes a while. That's why I wanted to give you some encouragement and a boost.

I really wish you all the luck xx

When I was first diagnosed with PCOS I was 16 years old. The doctor wasn't concerned because I wanted to go on the pill anyway. But I recall her saying to me, "oh you'll have no problem conceiving with PCOS because you're lean". Fast forward 10 years, I'm almost 12 months TTC and no response to my first round of Clomid.

I wish I could go back to that doctor and tell them. I'd just assumed I'd be fine and have no trouble. I'm really glad we didn't put off TTC any longer because we thought we'd have no trouble.

To rub it in even further, my sister in law and step sister both have severe PCOS and they have two children each. My step sister fell pregnant on the pill and my sister law fell pregnant accidentally.

PCOS sucks.

Trixter- it's so lovely to hear success stories and I wish you all the best. Keep popping but and maybe even show us the scan when you have it too. Most of all keep positive keep relaxed and all will be fine love x

Sarah2211- oh gosh i can understand the frustration there I'd be totally crushed I get so mad about my pcos and why I left it so long before we asked for help but I just believed it would happen.
Positivity and little or no stress is key, I can't say I've had no stress as I blame this bloody clomid making me so angry I went mad at h2b yesterday and in all honesty it was me just being touchy and blowing something so silly and little out of proportion but hey its all part of the journey so I tell myself and it'll be worth it I'm sure xx

Babydust- I dont know if there's a link, I have both hypothyroidism and pcos. Either can/could cause issues with temp and Oing and all that obviously. Have you had any testing for your thyroid?
I responded to clomid only one cycle out of 3. 1st was 50mg and nothing, 100mg I O'd, 150mg nothing.
