Hi All

My husband and I recently confirmed we are expecting a little girl. What do you think of Kiera?

Thanks!

Lovely name. Would you pronounce it Key-ra or Ki-eh-ra?

Not my style at all, but I would think you'd run into less pronunciation issues spelling it Keira (if you're going for Kee-ra). The -era at the end opens it up to be pronounced Kee-air-ah imo. If that's what you're going for then I might add an extra r (Kierra) to emphasize the 'err' sound.

I really like it, it's an irish name but spelt Ciara traditionally

Is it pronounced the same as 'Kirra'..that's how it's spelt in Aus if it is :)

I like it. Please don't go putting the I after the E (or A if you use the traditional spelling) though. It just look misspelled then and she'll be constantly correcting people, "no, the I is after the E..."

Your pronunciation is how most people know to say it already without having to mess with the spelling.

Well the original spelling is Ciara so you're messing with the spelling either way. Keira is actually the more common spelling according to most name lists. Maybe it depends on where you live.

Ultimately I think she'll be correcting people regardless of which way it's spelled.

Kiara (key-are-uh) is one of my fav names - Kiera is also quite beautiful! Unfortunately, I have found on this site though that there are a million variations of Ciara/Sierra, Kiara/Chiara, Kiera/Kierra, Keira/Kira, etc.... and everyone seems to have slightly different pronunciations depending on location.

To me - Kiera or Kierra are both pronounced "key-air-uh"
And Keira/Kira - are both pronounced "Keer-uh"

Thanks everyone! My husband is Afrikaans, so although I prefer the spelling Keira, I am concerned that all his family will pronounce it Kay-Ra and not Kee-ra which is my preference.

I love the spelling Kirra though! I think that will solve my dilemma :flower:
