I thought I'd share my planning for the kindness elves coming to stay with us for the first time this year! I have two girls who will be just 2 and 5.5 at Christmas.

1st December Letter

Dear 5 and 2,

Hello! We are your Kindness Elves! We have come from the North Pole to stay with you for the whole of advent. Your fairies have told us what wonderful, kind, caring and considerate children you are, so we wanted to come and meet you. 5: We have heard how fantastic and patient you have been in helping your sister learn to share. 2: We have heard what a polite little girl you are already! We are so excited to get to know you better.

At Christmas, we remember that Jesus came to the world to spread kindness and love. This advent, we would like to help you share your kindness and love with friends, family and strangers. Every morning, we'll hide somewhere for you to find us. We'll bring you a little note each day, and will give you special kindness challenges! If you would like to write to us, please put a letter in the post box in our house. And if you have any ideas of kind things you can do, we'd love you to share them with us .

Your first kindness challenge is to give us some special elf names. We can't wait to hear what you choose!

Lots of love,

Your Kindness Elves

School day ideas
1. If you see anyone by themselves at playtime, go and see if they would like to play with you.
2. Today, can you smile at everyone you see?
3. Help daddy cook dinner!
4. Mummy and daddy work very hard to keep the house tidy, and don't always manage to do everything. Can you help them by tidying your bedroom?
5. Today, make sure you put away any toys you play with without being asked!
6. The cat loves it when you stroke her. Let's give her some treats and a cuddle!
7. Let's go to the shop after school and choose food to donate to the food bank.
8. Can you lay the table for dinner today?
9. If you see a friend struggling with their work at school, can you offer to help them?
10. Can you choose a book and a toy each to donate to the doctors surgery?
11. Today, let's make a really special effort to say please and thank you!
12. 5, can you cuddle up with 2 and read her a story all by yourself?
13. Let's take Christmas gifts to our neighbours.

Non-school day ideas
1. Let's make Christmas presents for your teachers!
2. Nana loved the “I love you” box you made for her when she was sad. Let's make one for Grandma and Grandad for Christmas!
3. Shall we wrap Christmas presents for each other today?
4. Let's decorate the Christmas tree together! Take turns and share to make sure everyone has fun.
5. Shall we see if our elderly neighbour would like to come around for dinner?
6. There are lots of people in the world who aren't as lucky as we are. Can you help Mummy choose some gifts for people in need? (Oxfam Good Gifts)
7. Let's make Christmas treats to hand out to your friends at school and nursery!
8. We have brought you some Christmas cards for you to write for your friends!
9. Let's paint some happy rocks and hide them for strangers to find!
10. (Christmas Eve) Can you leave Father Christmas and the reindeer some treats because they'll be hungry and thirsty by the time they get to you!
