As most of you know I have been ttc for about 18 months and have had most of the tests involved. They have detected that I have pco but not pcos. I have completed 6 months of clomid with no preg. I have asked my consultant if he could give me a lap op to see if I have pcos or endo but he said no as he will not give 'comfort' lap ops and it is too dangerous! They are also ignoring the fact that I have some pco on my right ovary, which btw, I noticed from my scan and had to enquire about!

I decide that I needed to go back to my dr's and ask to be refered toa different consultant/ hospital, which I did and have now been to see another gynae and I'm now due to have lap op at the end of November. He says that he would like to rule out possibilities before he recommends IUI/ IVF etc. He say that he will look for PCOS through not just blood results but from waht he finds . He said that he may do ovarian drilling. He also said that he will check endometriosis and if he finds anything he will try to remove it.

My question is, that I'm a bit anxious as I havent had an op since I was three years old and wondered if anyone else had had this or will be having this op. I'm not sure to, as I havent been told, if we need to refrain from intercourse. I know this sound stupid but I'm not sure whether we should continue trying as period is due just before op?

Sorry if it's a long post-Would really appreciate your advice.
X :D :D :D

Didn't want to read and run. Don't know any answers for you hun - so just wish you luck

They give you a pregnancy test before they carry out the lap so if you want to keep trying you might as well. If you are pregnant they just won't do the lap.

I was told not to BD the month of my lap hun - so I wouldnt if i were you. esp. if your lap i not long before AF due and they do a test but the HSG too low to show up and then that puts you in a difficult position if you feel you might be.
It was actually really really nice to have a month off when I had mine - it really reinvigorated me and helped me put stuff in perspective cos I have spent nearly 2 1/2 years worrying and getting upset.

The lap can be different for everyone - mine was no problem and I wasnt that sore or in pain - but definitely give yourself a few days off to lie on the sofa and rest afterwards.

Let me know if you want more info.

Bx x :hugs:

Hi again PixieLou,
Hopefully I'll have some answers for you after Nov 11th. I'm getting really nervous about mine now, but a friend told me about hers the other day and said it is really OK. She also showed me her scars and they are tiny.
Let's hope we both get some answers, and then some help with Assisted fetility ASAP.

Hi ya

Firstly, don't worry. I've had four laps since being diagnosed with endo 8 years ago. You may be a bit sore afterwards - how sore depends on how much they pull you around really but a few days rest afterwards and you'll be fine. Sometimes your shoulders can ache afterwards if they havent managed to get rid of all the gas they fill you up with.

I'm not sure about TTC that month. Did your consultant not mention anything? They usually do a pregnancy test when you get to the hospital that day - not a blood test though. Maybe you should call the hospital and get some advice.

PixieLou,

looks like you, me and NikiJJones are having it done about the same time. Good luck to us!!!

I'm going to be exactly round mid-cycle, so I will definitely not BD before that. But if you got pregnant you'd know before your lap.

Baby dust to ALL!!!

I can only answer on the anxious feeling - best to check with your consultant about BD'ing :D but I'd imagine your best to avoid x

I've had a lap and tbh it was more mentally nerving than anything. They nipped me in the belly button and on my bikini line (bottom of belly in middle) so tbh it hurt afterwards I think thats because of where they were (think about how your body creases/noves when you sit up etc) I think they did some poking about too explaining why I was darn uncomfortable.

I bought school girl knickers  comfy pants for afterwards which really helped whist I healed up.

Just rest up a ikkle and have your OH look after you & good luck x

I'm in the exact same situation as you. I'm having a lap & dye on 26th Nov, and my period will be due at around the same time. DH and I have said that we will probably not TTC this month, just to be on the safe side.

This month was our last chance to try and get a BFP before the lap, but AF came today, so that is that!

xx

Sorry that AF got you this cycle Autumn Sky. I was so hoping to get PG this cycle too, but had an ultra-sound yesterday and she said I'm almost definitely not PG as there is no corpus luteum on my ovaries. So I am just waiting for the :witch: now. She's due on Wednesday and should be all gone in time for the op.
Good Luck PixieLou, Autumn Sky and Hopeful4baby. Let's all check back in after it's done and compare notes (and scars!).

Thanks ladies for your replies really nice to know that I can come here for support!

Yes, so there's gonna be four of us all around the same time having our laps done, Nikki first then Autumn sky then me on 28th Nov. When is your's Hopeful?

Spoke to lovely Irish Nurse at the hospital and asked her about BDing and af etc. She said that it's fine to go ahead and bd since af is due b4 op and that they will do pg test when I go in anyways. So I'm gonna take her advice and continue for this month.

Good luck ladies and please keep intouch. Let's hope we all get our bfp's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im due to go for lap on 13th nov - not looking forward to it at all. apart from anything i dont like being put asleep - scared i wont wake up! silly i know but there u go.

im going of pre op assessment next week - what happens here? i assume its bp, preg test, blood type check etc.

You're 2 days after me. That makes 5 of us. I feel better about mine already, just knowing that I'm not alone.
I've had 3 pre-op visits now as they keep changing my date. :hissy:!! They'll ask you tons of questions about your past history with anaesthetics and your medical history/ family medical history. They'll also probably measure you for the operation stockings which are to keep your blood flowing properly during the op. They did swabs (throat/ nasal and groin) at mine to check I don't have any nasty hospital superbugs (!!!), took my blood pressure and answered my questions about the op and recovery. Then they sent me off for full blood count. If I have to have this done again I will scream as I feel like a pin-cushion with all the bloods I've had taken over the past few months!!
I was told they'll do the PG test on the day of the op if there is a chance I am PG, but my AF is due a week before the op, so I won't need one. I gather they only do a urine test, and beware: the NHS ones are not very sensitive. When I was PG in May I'd had several :bfp:s at home and the NHS ones were :bfn: for a week after that. They only confirmed my PG with blood tests. I'm sure that you can insist on a hCG blood test if you think you may be PG. That should show from about 5-7DPO if you are PG.

Hiya!

I am just recovering from one I had Thursday! Honestly its fine I was made to feel easy about being put to sleep (I was so scared) he said I have more risk driving my car/traveling every day than being put to sleep!

Everything was fine they made a small incision in my belly button  and then 1 above my knicker line( its so small you cant even see it).
I have had discomfort more when I get up and down than anything but I have completely rested, my OH has looked after me! :happydance:I am a little bruised now but feel fine....they give me a sick note for a whole 7 days so its been lovely to sit on B&B!!

:thumbup:I wish now I hadn't worried about it all now (easier said than done) BUT would have one done again in a heartbeat without worrying x x x

Good luck with yours x x x:hugs:

I'm having my Lap a week today, so I'll check in again to this thread and let you know how it goes. I'm nervous about the anaesthetic due to my medical history, but hoping it all goes OK.
