Bad news. The nurse just called w/ results from bloodwork and 1st IUI is a
:bfn:. I'm so disappointed. As soon as get AF we are going for 2nd IUI. Anyway, I have read a few things about a procedure called laparoscopy. I know that the procedure can find scar tissue, etc that could not be seen otherwise and can be removed. Well so far DH and I normal so maybe its something that just hasn't been discovered yet. I had HSG 10/07 and both tubes clear. I'm just willing to try just about anything to get our miracle. Has anyone had a laparoscopy done or know of anyone? Any success stories? I'm not sure if or when I'm going to do it. I haven't even discussed with RE yet. Just wanted to see if my ladies knew anything first!

sorry hun, can't help much just wanted to say sorry for your IUI not working this cycle xx maybe lap is something you could suggest to consultant?

Sorry hun I can't be of any help to you but I just wanted to pass on some :hugs: I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I've had 2 done. First one was when I was 19 (almost 7rs ago now!) because I had very bad period pain and sex was also very painful. The Dr at the time thought it sounded like I had endometriosis. Anyway, the lap found nothing.

I also had one this year to rule me out with any problems (fertility wise) so that we could start treatment. I also had hysteroscopy, D&C, uteral biopsy and dye test.

I think its worth a mention to your RE hun. Have you had an internal ultra sound before to check out your ovaries?

Thanks for you info!! I have had vaginal ultrasounds done every cycle for the past 7 months to monitor follicle size right before ovulation and trigger shot. Is that what you mean? I agree with you. I think I'm going to go ahead and talk w/ RE about it and hopefully go through with the procedure..Can hurt anything, right?

I had a pelvic (its an internal though) u/s on day 5 (i think so anyway) of my cycle to see what everything looked like when it wasn't being active making eggies etc. But if there was something wrong with your ovaries - PCOS for eg, then i'm sure they'd have picked it up when they did your u/s's.

As for the procedure its not so bad, its done under GA, you wake up feeling a bit sore and are sore (like really bad period pain, for me at least anyway) for a good week or so before feeling back to normal. You'll also be quite bloated and swollen.

It will help to rule out a few things and give you a bit more peace of mind. I think its a good idea. Let us know how you go with talking to RE about it

Ok will let you know! Thanks again and I wish you the best of luck!!

I had one done in May and they found mild endo which they removed....i havent got my BFP yet n but lots of women do after the LAP and dye test...

Fingers crossed for you chick xx

Don't have any information for you, just want to wish you good luck and :hugs: for your BFN

Sorry you had a BFN, it is so difficult, sending you lots of hugs!!!

I had a laproscopy done as an emergency op as I had a burst cyst. They fill your tummy up with gas ( sure it is called something else!) so they can have a good look. It is done key hole surgery and you are sound asleep ( that's the nice bit!) I too was just a little sore, and very bloated for about a week.

I had my HSG sometime after the op. I don't know but if your HSG scan showed clear tubes, I am not sure why they would do the laproscopy? I don't know but good to check, naturally we want to try anything that may help so always worth talking about it.

Wishing you lots of luck.

I don’t think that a laparoscopy would be beneficial unless you had signs of endometriosis, pelvic pain, some kind of indication that something might be happening inside.

IUI is only useful if your tubes are clear so, if you have been referred for IUI then they would not be wasting their time performing it on you if they thought that there was some reason why the sperm could not meet the egg.

I think that you are referred for a lap only if there are indications that there is something wrong that would not show up on the ultrasound or the HSG eg pain or irregularity, clots and what have you. Do you have pain at all? Do you have madly long periods or any other indication of a problem?

Thanks for the advice!! My periods are pretty normal. I do notice that during BD more often than not, it is painful. Do you think that is an indication of something?

I am going to definitely talk to RE about it next appt. The only thing I have noticed is more pain during BD. Hey I noticed you stopped smoking 2 months ago! Congratulations! That is so great! I am a smoker as well. I haven't considered stopping smoking yet because of all the stress TTC. As as I get BFP I'm quitting cold turkey! Did you just decide to do it or did you dr recommend it for better chances of conceiving?

--Lesley

Hey hun

I stopped smoking to try and speed the BFP along as it seems i have very bad luck in this area i just wanna do all i can to get a BFP - ttc can be so stressful though and at times i just wanna pack it in and smoke....especially when a few friends have been drinking and smoking loads and guess what they have fallen by accident.....so annoying but i suppose everyone is different and i just have bad luck ...... i hope my luck starts getting better soon as i'm finding this very hard at the moment....

good luck xx

Has pain during BD always been there? Can be indicative of a few things. One of them is, believe it or not, rough BD. I think if they had had concerns about anything they would have followed the HSG up with a Lap. It’s the fact that they put you forward for IUI that makes me think that they don’t believe there is problem. It’s a costly thing. If you were unable to get pregnant then they would not waste the money on an exercise that is never going to be successful.

Sorry to hear that your first IUI didn't work. It doesn't hur to ask to the RE about the lap. My RE told me that the chances of conceiving with IUI is about 15-20% if you are under 35 and your hubby sperm is normal. So don't get discouraged and think it's something wrong with you if you don't get the BFP right away. I wish you lots of luck for the next cycle. :dust:

I'm in the same boat as you, I have had HSG and am will be moving on to round 5 of clomid next AF. I too was curious about the lap op as two of my friends have had it and one has fallen pregnant now, she reckon she nevr would have done without it!

Unfortunately(if you read my post on it I will give more info) when I saw the doc last week he point blank refused to do it and said that it's too dangerous and expensive on NHS!
