I just about had a heart attack, I thought I was going to have to rush her to A&E to have her stomach pumped!!
Kili was playing quietly in her play pen next to me as usual, I heard her cough so looked over. I see bits of white stuff all over the floor, her hands, face, mouth. I immediately thing she's ripped a toy open and is eating the fluff, but the stuff was wet. I looked at her nappy and sure enough she had ripped it open (was wearing a skirt) and pulled handfulls of the absorbent beads out and ATE them!!!
I immediately gave her water and cleaned her up while OH call NHS direct.
We were both expecting a trip to hospital but were very surprised when the nurse on the phone said "as long as she's able to breathe, eat, and drink water, she's fine" He said that all nappies have to be non toxic to be sold and the beads won't harm her at all. I told OH to make sure and mention the beads were full with wee at the time  and he said that's still fine, better in face since that means they won't absorb any more liquid from her stomach and will pass right through her with no problems. He said it was even better that it was an asda smart price nappy since they don't even have any extra chemicals they're just plain and simple generic absorbent beads.

Scared me to death! But useful info if anyone else goes through this now you know it's ok if they eat the beads as long as they can still breathe, eat, and drink water! It seems so strange that it's fine!

ETA: Out of curiosity, what would you do if this happened to your LO? I was absolutely panicking thinking it would absorb her stomach contents and expand her stomach too much or something and she would have to have her stomach pumped, I'm wondering if I was over worrying by thinking that or if that's what others would have thought too?

Phew... Can imagine how you felt! Interesting appetite craving though...! Glad she's ok.

Blooming heck hun. I'm so pleased everything has turned out well. That's one to embarrass Kili with when she's older, if needs be.

I would never have thought the NHS direct would have said that, but that's brilliant news.

Glad its not serious. So one more reason to use asda's nappies :) I guess I have to switch now. :)

:haha: they are pretty amazing actually, but I'm guessing the better brands might not be so easy for LO do break open. I decided she'll have to always have something to cover her nappy during playtime from now on, which I should have been doing anyway since she learned how to take it off a few weeks ago and poo'd everywhere
They are still a great value for the money though, and they passed the exploding poo test and passed the night time exploding poo test as well with no leaks so I'll definitely be recommending them to everyone!

ETA: Oh I should mention it was the asda smart price nappies, not the asda little angels ones. The smart price only come in junior(size 5) unfortunately, I think it's because that's the size babies stay in the longest. But once your LO gets to that size I definitely recommend them, can't beat 20 for £1.42!

Yep my eldest did the same (except he ate fistfuls of the stuff from a sopping wet overnight nappy) and I called NHS and they said pretty much the same thing, but added the usual disclaimer of if they stop breathing; or become unresponsive or start vomiting and diarrhoea then to take them to A&E. Yes I would have totally have thought the same thing and was going to take him to A&E off the bat xx

I never knew this! Good to know, glad she is ok x

I only knew that before from reading up on diapers... that they have to be non toxic. However, had I not known that and if it would have happened I probably would have absolutely panicked!

Glad everything is ok :)

Glad I'm not the only one it's happened to, well not glad, but relieved because I was starting to think I must be awful for not noticing her eating her nappy! Hers was sopping wet as well, it was new when I put her down to play but I then gave her a cup with 8oz of milk so she soon filled it up!

i would have panicked too! glad shes fine though... eww eating weewee
