Hello ladies,

I feel rather nervous writing this, as I don't feel like I'm worthy to be in this section. Still I don't know really where to belong in this forum. Here seems so warm and comforting..

Yesterday I was diagnosed with PCOS. I haven't had a natural period in 8 months now, so I guess it shouldn't have come as a shock but I feel weird and nervous for some reason. The doctor wants to start me on injections in January. I'm not quite sure what that means because my husband was translating everything she said, because I don't speak German.

I currently live in a foreign country far from home. So I'm lonely and isolated. Last night I had a major panic attack, I haven't had them in years ): and it's left me all shaken. I feel like I need somewhere to talk to learn and understand these changes.

I do understand if I am being premature with this post, and please tell me if I'm out of line.

Thankyou for reading this.. you guys are an inspiration.

Sarah

Aw, im sorry you didnt get any positive news from the doctor, but dont give up hope.

Did u have any tests, scans etc, or did they just diagnose it (im asking this for myself, cos i sometimes wonder if i have it )

You are more than worthy of being in this section, and you shouldnt have to ask if u are!

I dont know much about PCOS tbh, but hopefully someone on here can explain about the injections.

:hugs: PM me if u ever want a moan xxx

Heya Nathyrra :)

Of course you deservere to be here! The girls here are really nice. Sorry to hear about being diagnosed with PCOS, I can only imagine how upsetting that is. I personally haven't got PCOS but alot of ladies on here do and I'm sure they can give you some help :)

I know how it feels to be alone in a foreign country not speaking the language!

How long have you been ttc now?

xxx

gonna make me cry, I'm so relieved.

I've only been TTC for 7 months, but I've had problems since the get go with my cycles, because I didn't get withdrawal bleeds.

The doctor did an internal exam yesterday, with a blood test. I've had 2 previous internal exams in the last 7 months, and one other blood test. I'm not sure exactly what she's finding on these scans as I don't understand her, and my husband tries his best to translate. Apparently my last blood test was abnormal also.

My symptoms have really been since off the pill: drastically worse skin, weight gain in the stomach area only, depression, no periods, and my OPK's always had a line on them, always the same shade of color. Not positive, but it never changed color throughout the cycle.

Welcome hunny, hope you find all the support you need :hugs:

Hello and welcome :) I hope your TTC journey is a short one. I too have PCOS and have long cycles (45-60 days). I wanted to share my experience with injections as I have been on it for 2 cycles.
My doctor brings me in for CD3 blood test and scans. They want to make sure that the ovaries are quiet and to test estrogen levels. They will instruct you on how to properly give yourself an injection. I am on Gonal-F pen and they started me off on 75IU. I was scared to give myself the injection so I had my husband do it. It didn't hurt much at all. The needle was really small. You have to leave it in for 5 secs to make sure nothing drips out. They brought me back 4 days later for a scan to see how my eggs are growing. They keep monitoring you until they are 1 or 2 eggs over 18mm. Once you are ready to ovulate, they give you a HCG trigger shot to release the egg. You should release your egg(s) 24-36 hours later.
I dont' know what the doctor has planned for oyu for the next step. He may have you BD the next few days naturally or have you come in for an IUI. With an IUI, your husband brings in his sample in a cup. They prep it and they use a seringe and inject it into your uterus. You lie down for 10 mins and you go about your day.

I hope this helps. Good Luck.

 I am so glad that you found us. I can't imagine doing this all alone. Everyone here is so wonderful and supportive. Welcome!

Hi hun and welcome. I have PCOS and am taking metformin which has regulated my cycles. I don't have any knowledge of the injections unfortunately. If there is anything I can be of help with feel free to ask/ drop me a PM.
Best of luck hun.

hi :) I'm sorry to hear about being diagnosed with PCOS. I don't have it, as far as I am aware of, but a relative of mine does, she is in her mid 20's and she has a 2 1/2 year old daughter who is the most perfect little girl in the world! She got pregnant a couple of months after deciding to TTC which came as a surprise to her.

I just thought I should let you know that people with PCOS do go on to have children and theyre perfect! I'm sure Victoria Beckham has it too, I remember hearing that from somewhere.

I hope everything gets better soon :) :hugs:

My mom has PCOS. This is what I know about it:

xposted from the other TTC forum:
PCOS stands for polycystic ovary syndrome. It is a complex syndrome and not everyone who has it has the same level of severity or even the same symptoms besides cysts on their ovaries. These cysts are actually follicles that have failed to pop off as they should or go down after O as they should. This can cause infertility because women who have PCOS do not always reliably ovulate since the follicles they have do not always pop off correctly and these go on to be cysts. This causes their hormones to unbalance and cause them to have a higher than normal production of testosterone. Women with PCOS usually have a family history of diabetes and are insulin resistant. They may or may not be overweight, they may or may not have hair in places a women wouldn't, they may or may not have skin tags, etc. They also may or may not have a period or irregular periods. Some also have elevated levels of LH and others do not.

My mother has PCOS. She is the skinniest person I know, has regular periods though she does have extra hair and can sometimes get skin tags. She obviously had children, three of them in fact and all without help, so a diagnosis of PCOS is by no means a diagnosis of infertility. It can AFFECT infertility though. If you suspect PCOS, you should talk to your doctor. Only he/she can diagnose PCOS.

PCOS is caused by a number of factors and this influences its severity. Though PCOS can be hereditary it is important to understand that because it is causes by how multiple genes work in combination, it does not mean any children you have will inherit it. This means your mother does not have to have it for you to have it. In addition it can pass from a father to his daughter - the genes are not X-linked. My mother likely got the huge factors from her father since he had diabetes. And since it is a combination of genes, neither of your parents need to have it for you to have it. Their genes just had to combine in you in such a way to bring it about.

Please correct me if I got anything wrong or left anything out.

Thanks you guys for the support and information you have given me, it means so much.

My sister called me yesterday and asked me to come home to England and offered me a place to stay. So next year I will be relieved to be going home after the animals have their pet passports updated to come with me.

Thanks so muchx

Hey Sarah

Welcome to BNB - you will find plenty of people to help on this site and chat - my German is a bit shocking so ich heibe Rachelle! That really is the extent of it apart from the odd swear word that i mastered when i was 12 years old...... oh dear!

Hope you are feeling okay and that January will bring you wonderful things! xx

Im am so very sorry you feel so lonely and know what its like to be far from home when all you need are familiar grounds sweetie. But you have your DH and hopefully some lovely friends and every one of us here knows what its like to have something wrong when TTC. PCOS is a horrible thing but can be over come. 4 weeks ago I held my nephew which was amazing as she conceived him after 5 years ttc with IVF and god knows what but in the end she did it alone.

The main thing is to keep well. PCOS messes with you all over your body and you have to keep it in check. Dont skip your meds (metphormine) or whatever they give you over there, eat well and keep talking dont bottle it up. were all in the same boat xx

LOL we know about as much German as eachother then! I'm pathetic, I get so embarrassed trying to speak the language. It's rather a loud abrupt language and I'm shy >.< lol
