Wow... I'm really quite overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from everyone. Thank you all
I had an appointment with my regular midwife yesterday. They had trouble finding the heartbeat with the doppler but turned on the ultrasound machine and we were able to get a quick look at baby--quite healthy with a heartbeat of 134
The mw was a lot more positive than the obgyn and said it's a great sign that 4 days after the bleeding started, that baby is still doing well and she thinks it's a good indication of the long-term outcome.
Bleeding has reduced and is no longer bright red, which makes me hopeful that it's maybe just the rest of the initial bleed clearing out and hopefully stopping!
Next appointment is Tuesday at the hospital with the obgyn for a more thorough ultrasound, but I'm feeling hopeful
That seems very positive! I am no expert but I agree with the MW that if baby is still doing well after this time that is a good sign. It sounds like your OB thought your baby was loosing blood from the placenta? Maybe the baby hasnt lost blood at all and all the blood is all yours, which I imagine would be very different. In that case as long as the placenta doesn't come away more there should be no problem for your baby. Its also good that your blood loss has slowed. Hopefully you are getting to the end of your ordeal. It must have scared you when the MW couldnt find the heart beat.
Personally I would keep to bedrest or close to it untill the bleeding has stopped and then carry on being careful about not doing heavy lifting or anything. Doctors dont know how much rest helps but it may help for some in your situation.
