Lump in armpit

Well, i'm finally home with my baby Poppy after nearly a week in hospital, and having been trying to master breast feeding and at last, the electric breast pump i'd been so scared of...

anyway, it;s day 2/ 3 of breast feeding, and after a slow start it;s going ok. Trouble is my right breast is feeling really engorged, AND i've got a big lump in my armpit which aches.

Does this sound like a blocked duct? Anyone else had it?

I' planning spending the night now with warm towel massages and tonnes of expressing that side. Any other suggestions?

i have to be honest hun, i've never breastfed as this is my first so don't know if its a blocked duct but i'd definately recommend you get it checked by GP...as it hurts it sounds like a blockage, as a cyst or something else doesn't normally hurt from what i understand but you can never be too careful

When my milk was first coming in I could feel large lumps in both breasts. I was also afraid that I had blocked ducts but they went away with the engorgement a few days after my milk came in. I'd like to say that yours sounds normal however it being located in the armpit sounds a little odd. Maybe it's worth a phone call to you doctor during office hours? In the meantime, hot compress and massaging it might help, if it is a blocked duct. Good luck and keep up the breastfeeding!
