Sooo, I don't really wear much makeup and I obviously need to for my wedding day. I was considering having a professional do it, but having looked at prices I've changed my mind! My sister has offered to do it for me, but I want to look quite natural.
Sooo, I'm a natural redhead with blue eyes and I'm rather pale to say the least.
Any suggestions as to what to buy?

i would consult your nearest department store and explain your concerns. They will show you how to apply your make up and what brands and colours to use for nothing, usually they expect you to purchase something from their store for the consultation and I would reccommend purchasing the cheapest item, get them to write the products down and find them cheaper on line. works a treat everytime. Explain to make it natural and not over done!!

I agree with Honey. Go to your nearest Mac Counter (usually House of Fraiser) and explain and they will try some different styles on you and see what suits you best. They will also match your foundation perfectly to your skin. But if you don't wear make-up that often it might be better just getting someone to do it as the make-up is quite expensive.

I found my make-up artist by going to the Mac counter and asking how I found a Mac make-up artist to do make-up for my wedding. Most of them o it freelance but aren't allowed to talk about it on the shop floor so if you leave your name and number they will call you back after hours :) xx

I just can't justify spending almost £100 on a make up artist, where I won't have anything to show for it afterwards. We are working to a budget so I'll just have to work around that.

have a look on youtube too!!!! there are literally HUNDREDS of videos explaining what works well with your skin tone. I did make up before I did teaching. If you show me a pciture of yourself I can reccommend for you. xxx

i just looked at a freelance mac artists and she charges £230 for a trial make up and hair plus on the day- sooo expensive!!

I am getting mine for £100 for the trial and the day and bearing in mind she also lives 30 odd miles away from me too. Definately an idea to ask the girls on the mac counter in the department stores xx

what an english rose you are!!!!! ok give me like twenty mins and ill get back to you- you ahve the same pinkish complexion as me so it wont be hard!!! xx

Ok first of all- stay away from black eyeliner & black mascara!!!!

eyes...

Stick with darkest brown/ medium brown mascara and a medium brown for liner (if you choose to wear it). If you can, purchase a lash building mascara that will really define and make make your lashes stand out!

Stick with a very light brown if you wish to pencil and define your eye brows and give them a very very gentle sweep over (the pencils are usually very sharp brand new so sweep over some tissue first to soften it or you'll end up with drawn on eye brows!!!)

For eyeshadow I would suggest either a very light taupe or a light browny-pink all over your lid and a darker (but not dark dark) brown on your lid. Keep it natural!!!

cheeks....

An english rose pink would look stunning or an apricot. use cream instead od powder, smile and dab on, blend it.

lips...

again a very translucent english rose/ light pink (not baby pink) lipgloss. Stay away from block colours and pencilled lines.

face...

Use a good liquid concealer. I would recommend a greenish tinted concealer to soften your red features on your skin...but im worried it'll confuse you. I know you can get really good concealers that are liquid. Get the concealer in a ligh colour nevertheless. Dap on untill blended - DONT RUB!

if your not a fan of heavy make up, i'd stay clear away from liquid foundations and use a mineral one. Its exactly like powder... but it gives fantastic coverage. Use a good big brush and dust over lightely, use sparingly and use more only if needed.

Remember to blend down the neck so you wont get lines, and start from the nose outwards to also avoid this!

Also, get a natural light bronzer, sweep very sparingly over your nose and forehead.

If your on a budget I suggest using maybelline or maxfactor!!

Awww thanks so much honey, that really really really helps! I'm definately going to try and do it myself/get my sis to follow your guidelines. That's brilliant!!

What a goddamn rip-off. I'm a freelance make up artist and qualified. Someone round here charges 75 just for make up on the day, 30 pound a trial, even that is expensive. I charged 25 quid for trial and on the day make up to someone across the road 2 weeks ago. You are only charging for the small amount of make up used and your time, most brides only want natural so it isn't like you are using your whole kit.
I got married end of june and I paid 30 quid for my hair to be done at my local hairdressers.

Don't be ripped off, as with everything 'wedding' they add the zeros on the price.

BTW Mac are the only counter I'd recommend any advice from, as they all are either diploma or degree qualified, I wouldn't bother with the rest as they are in house trained and most make up companys employ people good at sales not the artist side.

Thanks for the advice hun. It's ridiculous the amount they add on for wedding related stuff. It's a right rip off! If I could find someone who charged what you did then I wouldn't have a problem, it's just £100+ is a LOT of money!

And honey, that's exactly what I wanted, she looks stunning doesn't she!? Gorgeous dress too. I will definately have to start shopping won't I!?

i forgot to say....also if you use bronzer...dust over shoulders and down neck too!!!

Also, try not to use stuff with spf factor or whatever its called because it'll make your face shine in pictures!!!

xx

Oooh that's a good tip. I wouldn't have realised that. In fact, my sister tends to have that problem with the shiny face in photo's so I'll pass that one on to her too. Thanks again hun! :flower:

If you tend to sweat alot (and being a bride you will) mac dotting papers are amazing at removing the sweat and oil- but not your make up! xx
