Mamarazzis! Camera/DSLR Group

Here are some from today. We were out and about all day and when I got home I took some pictures of him in his new outfits, though they didn't turn out well. :( Maybe tomorrow. No snazzy photos or anything btw, just random pictures.

^--This one was actually from 2 days ago when we went to the park. Not exactly an artsy photo but figured I'd add it along with other things I uploaded.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/nakeli/IMG_0460.jpg
^--It took me everything I had to get a smile. All he wanted to do was eat the rug that was in front of him.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/nakeli/IMG_0452.jpg
^--This one isn't exactly artsy either. He's too cute when he sleeps though. He actually fell asleep while I was putting his pants on this morning, then proceeded to sleep off and on for the 6 hours I was at the mall.

Such sweet shots! I love love love that smiling pic :) And I seriously can't imagine what it must be like to have a baby that just falls asleep randomly, haha.

Kitty, I just love all of your pictures! Great shots, and you seriously have the most beautiful family I've ever seen!

Leids, omg, that second picture is to die for! So so so so so sweet! I agree with bananaz though, I can't imagine having a baby that falls asleep anywhere anytime. That would be so sweet though!

What is everyone's names by the way? I hate writing the usernames when I'm referring to someone. Lol. I'm Jessica, obviously. :p

And bananaz, no way could I afford the 1.2 anytime soon!! Thanks for your input! I have my camera on me constantly taking shots of anything and everything to get better used to it and more comfortable with it.

Aww thanks ladies. :) He might be narcoleptic with how much he randomly falls asleep. He'll be playing with DH, then DH will start talking to me and have William on his lap then all of a sudden he's asleep. It's so silly! In the mall I think he's just bored but won't fuss because he likes looking around at everything, so randomly falls asleep in the stroller. All of my friends who have babies that go out with me walking are super jealous because he's so calm, but it worries me a little sometimes! DH and I are both really mellow so maybe he just takes after us.

It also takes him forever to wake up in the morning after he's slept a long time. He can spend 30 min or longer just staring at the ceiling with puffy eyes. School is going to be fun with this one. :haha: He's met all of his milestones and is even advanced in a lot of ways so I won't worry too much.

Anyways, rant over! My name is Amandy (no typo, it actually is Amandy!), but everyone just calls me Mandy. :)

I usually take pictures every day, but when he's around the house he's always just in a white onesie and some little pants. :haha:

So what are you ladies planning on doing for Christmas shots? I just bought a red/white plaid-ish button down shirt that I plan on putting some kind of vest or sweater over. I'd like to find something more cute-sie though, so I'm thinking of buying this romper from Next's US site. I also need to find a white sheet of some sort! Is there any good way to produce extra light without the umbrella lighting?

I was wondering about your name on facebook! I thought it was just a cutsie nickname. Haha. My mom's name is Amanda, but everyone calls her Mandy.
Don't know why I thought I would tell ya'll that. LOL.

I second the question about the light though!
Well DH and I decided that for every Holiday we're going to do some kind of cutesy theme (Like for Halloween it was the pumpkin).
For christmas we're decorating the tree, of course, and going a bit overboard with the decorations around the tree because we're going to put her in a present with her head sticking out. HAHA. And I think we'll put a santa hat on her.
As for family shots, I haven't decided yet. We'll probably all sit in front of the tree, dog included, and take the picture. I might look up more ideas online.

Aww that's a great idea! Time to go to pinterest! I need to get a santa hat for him. Maybe I can do that with a cute diaper cover and an oversized ornament or something.

His nainai made him a hat, so I took some pictures for her.

In case anyone is wondering, nainai is grandma in Chinese. :haha:

And this was taken outside on the patio. Hard to believe his eyes are so so dark brown when I have light blue/greenish eyes!

I don't really have plans for Christmas shots yet except I love Christmas light bokeh so there will be plenty of that! Maybe something like these...

How did you ladies find each other on Facebook? I want to play! My name is Megan, btw :flower:

Ohh I love those shots! So simple too. :) My facebook is www.facebook.com/aeavy. There are so few Amandys though that you could probably just put my first name in and find me that way haha.

That's my facebook. Amandy, I loooove that hat. He has the most precious smile! I just love his face in the last one. And your idea about christmas shots is so cute. I can totally picture it.

Megan, those are great ideas!
I love the stocking one, but Lilly is far too big for one I'm pretty sure. Maybe I can find an oversized one somewhere?
I can't wait until Christmas!

Yeah, the stocking one probably isn't feasible for older babies (though it might be funny trying to get Elsie to stay still long enough to put her in one!), I just thought it was a gorgeous pic.

Might be able to do something like https://www.amazon.com/Jumbo-Giant-...1351205122&sr=8-1&keywords=oversized+stocking - and have a picture/s of them crawling out of it.

I came across this one - https://www.amazon.com/Jumbo-Felt-G...1351205122&sr=8-8&keywords=oversized+stocking what in the world?! :haha:

LOL What the heck?

All the pics here are amazing. Seriously you girls out me in awe with your skills... And I am so floored and flattered at the compliments you give my family. I actually cried. Of course I think they are beautiful, I have to, but to know others think so too makes me all giddy.

I think you all have beautiful babies from what I have seen. Clearly this thread is where all the good genes are haha.

Can someone tell me in very simple terms how bokeh is created?

So, these are mostly edited in Jazz on the IPad... I'm never on the laptop haha. But this wee photo story might melt you melty.

Met this girl

They had a date

It went well...

And it ended with a kiss

And today, for the first ever time, I tried using manual mode. I usually use CA and do it that way. I used Bananaz great tip and went to P mode to see what settings they suggested and played in M from what was suggested. These are completed unedited, just as they came. Not to bad I think, far from perfect but I just grabbed a minute while Fin was napping and plonked her in the Bumbo in the kitchen where there was most light... As you can see from her top I didn't even have time to change her top let alone set up a shot properly haha. It's the closest I have come to capturing the beautiful colour of her eyes on camera.

Bananaz, could you paste that handy easy guide to the settings on this thread? I'm a dick and lose things.

Also my loves, shall we get to know each other a little more? Just share a bit of basic info?

I'm Jemma, 28. I'm married to my best friend (cliche), Ian. He is 26 and reminds me daily. We've been married 2.5 years. We've 2 gorgeous babies. Fin is 2 and Amelia (Mops... Amelia>Millie>Millie Mops>Mops) is nearing 5 months. We don't plan on having any more children now. I'm a very lucky stay at home mummy. Ian earns a good wage and so supports us comfortably on his salary alone, that said, I do also run a cupcake business from home. I always loved baking and it gives me a little more identity after being Mummy all day. My cupcakes were in Vogue last year and one of my designs won me a trip to NYC for Ian and I which we go on in March but I'm so nervous about leaving my darlings. I love anything creative really, I love to write, draw and craft. I've just started making wee hairbands and am starting up face painting. My plan is that through my creative side I can make enough business so that I do not need to return to work once the children are inside. I live music, Manchester Orchestra are... Amazing. I enjoy playing Lego games in the Xbox, doing crappy accents and Cadbury Fabulous Fingers... Oh and photography. Of course. My children are my life, I've recently lost my best friend because she feels I have a "self destroying" devotion to my children and am "too much of a Mum now". Given that she is a Mummherself, she is clearly a twat.

That's me. Xx

OKAY!! Thanks to all you camera snobs, I'm giving in and buying one!!!:haha:

It's used and an older model, but it comes with two lenses and frankly I don't have a lot of money to spend!! It's a Canon Rebel XS with a 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 lens and a 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 lens.

I have noooo idea what I'm doing either.. I've never used one!! How did you all figure yours out? Just playing around?? There's a book called Canon Rebel XS for Dummies and I think I might download it on my Kindle haha!!

Bananaz, could you paste that handy easy guide to the settings on this thread? I'm a dick and lose things.

Here you go!

1. Shutter speed - the faster it is, the sharper the image. However, the faster it is, the less light is let into the lens so you don't want to make it too fast, especially when you're inside and don't have a ton of available light. I would recommend having a shutter speed of no slower than 1/125s when you're shooting a live subject.

2. Aperture - the smaller the number, the wider the aperture and the more light is let into the lens. Using a smaller number also creates a shallower depth of field and gives you that nice blurry background you see in professional-looking photos. However, if you have too wide an aperture you can end up with too shallow a depth of field and that means blurry pictures. If you're using the 50mm f/1.8 lens I would probably use an aperture of around f/2.0 or f/2.2

3. ISO - the bigger the number, the more sensitive the image sensor is to light so the brighter the picture. But the downside is that if you have this number set too big it can make the photo appear grainy, so I would try not to have it set any higher than 400.

How you have any of these set depends on the environment in which you're shooting. If you're outside and it's bright then you'd probably put the ISO as low as it will go and bump up your shutter speed so the picture isn't overexposed, whereas if it's dark out or you're indoors then you'd slow down the shutter speed and open up the aperture really wide and/or increase the ISO. For the picture of Elsie on the couch, it was indoors but there was a lot of light coming in through the window so I had it in manual mode with the aperture at f/2.0, ISO at 125, and shutter speed 1/250s.

If you want to learn more about this stuff you should check this link out, it goes much more in-depth: https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/camera-exposure.htm

Haha, I shot with a Rebel XS for a long time, it should do the job just fine. I know I sound like a broken record here but I'd recommend picking up a 50mm f/1.8 lens if you can afford it. You can find them new for $100 or used for around $70-85. The other lenses you're getting will be great for general snapshots and outdoor photography but for low-light portraiture you really want a wider aperture. Just my $0.02.

And I mainly learned through experimentation and then just looked up guides online when I had specific questions.

Bananaz, where would you recommend buying a 50mm f/1.8 lens from? I'm looking at Amazon and they're a little over $100 new with free shipping and $90 (plus a million dollars shipping to AK) used. Is there a reputable place to buy them a little cheaper used? I looked at eBay, but since I'm a complete noob I have no idea what is legit and what is not!!!

eBay is a good place to look, you just have to make sure the seller has plenty of positive feedback. You might also check out your local Craigslist, but definitely bring your camera and try the lens out before you buy it!

You can also buy refurbished lenses directly from Canon, but it looks like the 50mm f/1.8 is out of stock right now

EDIT: I found these too. Both are very well-reputed photography supply stores and they have it for $89.95 with free shipping.

Yaaaaay! Can't wait to see pics of Lilly! I just love all the silly faces she makes!
I just played around with mine and read the manual. Not all cause I'm lazy, haha, but the main points.
You'll get the hang of it pretty fast!

Yayy alaskagrown! :) I can't wait to see more adorable pictures! Your LO has such a personality already.

I'll do a quick bio about myself - I'm 25, and I married my husband last November so almost a year! Yep got married while I was pregnant. :haha: I live in the US, just outside of Philadelphia and fairly close to NYC/Baltimore areas as well.

I primarily did retail management because it was all I could find for awhile, but my major in college was psychology. Now just going to get into social work once LO is around 3 or 4. My DH is 26 and works in aerospace engineering, so he's a smarty pants. Hopefully my little guy takes after him! Still on the fence about #2, but planning on waiting 4-5 years between them so I have awhile to decide.

As a lot of people know my little guy is half Chinese and half white (I'm a mutt, mostly European mutt with some Native American). My parents are a pain in my tookus. I enjoy long walks on the beach and... :haha: Yeah that about sums it up. ;)

---

On a side note, I had an awful day today. Locked my keys in my car. William pooped his pants while waiting for the guy to come get the keys out. Had to buy diapers/wipes (locked diaper bag in car as well) from Walgreens, then use their employee bathroom. Had to use my shirt as a changing pad, thank goodness I was wearing a cami otherwise I would've walked out with a poop covered shirt.

There's a hurricane coming directly at us. Apparently according to new projections the eye is going to pass right through Delaware, so we're prepping for that. Probably won't have power for a little bit, but I do have a smart phone so I'll be on to harrass FB and BnB.

All right, here's a quick introduction. My name is Megan, I'm 25 years old. I graduated from university last year with a degree in psychology and I'm currently applying to medical school for next fall.

My LO's name is Elsie and she's just over 5 months old. Her dad took off when she was 10 weeks old, but he came back after a month and now he sees her on a semi-regular basis. I'm in the process of petitioning for sole custody right now, which is turning out to be a big pain in the ass.

I guess that's it! :flower:
