manchester to cornwall... too far for LO in car?

I did North Wales to St Ives (much the same distance) in October in one go at it was fine. We also drive up to my family in Scotland every few months in one go (about 7 hours). She does get a bit bored and whiney (and occaisonally protests at going back in the car seat) so regular stops are a must.

Oh my god, you're just round the corner and our babies are pretty much the same age! Crazy. I always feel amazed by people on here being "real" :haha:

Yeh I teach in Padgate. We moved to Grappenhall coz it's nice and quiet and the schools are good. Thelwall Primary is literally at the bottom of our road so it's perfect x

oh hell yeah im real..have you taken fin to lilys attic yet? its just by us and my lo likes it.

Yeh been a few times but it's not really contained enough iykwim - he always races off and tries to get into the kitchen and stuff! Little pest :) we usually go to The Jungle over in Winwick (near LA Bowl). It's a bit of a trek but he can whizz round and let off more steam there :)

ah thats boys i guess, my LO is not so daring. havent tried jungle but do know it . went to jellybeans and it was chaos!

God jellybeans is awful - I've only been once and stayed less than 5 minutes. Stress central. The jungle is our saturday morning treat lol x

We take a 5h trip regularly and a 12-14h trip every summer. Totally fine! We stop whenever it is necessary and have a DVD player for LO. xx

thanks so much ladies , feel so much better about things now. bloody OH planting them seeds in my head again.

We regularly do Essex to North Derbyshire or to Shropshire and allow a good 5 to 6 hours with stops. I try not to stop more than twice because Tom hates going back into the car after the 2nd one. Usually he'll sleep for around 2 hrs then we stop for lunch, he'll be ok for another 1 to 2 hrs on his own playing or looking at books then we stop for coffee and then one of us goes in the back with him for the final hour or so cos he's really bored by then and getting grumpy.

If is a one off for a holiday then I'd go for it but plan in breaks and time it to avoid the worst traffic if possible.

we're doing a 10 hour car trip from Missouri to northern Indiana. we'll be stopping as often as necessary, probably shortly after we leave, again for lunch, and then after his nap and then again before dinner - thats the plan!

the lucnh stop will be a long one and perferably someone with a small play area to get the energy out of him

We went down to Cornwall last year with LO, he was around 6 months so slept most of the way. He was a bit restless on the way there but on the way back we left at 7pm and he slept all the way home (apart from the odd break). Your LO will LOVE Cornwall, there is so much to do, we are hoping to go again this year.

We've done long car journeys a couple of times and only had problems once - that was when lo was about 17 or 18 months and she just cried and cried and cried for about 2 hours - nothing we did would settle her so we just had to keep going.

Generally though they are fine. We usually go once we've eaten our lunch or evening meal so that they will sleep for a while. We stop at services a few times to stretch legs and go to the loo. As yet we haven't had to provide entertainment for them. They are usually happy with they nursery rhymes on and they have have books that they 'read'.

Och no, that would be fine. We have driven to London and also to Norfolk from Edinburgh which are longer drives! You just need to be prepared. DVDs are great, new toys, etc. Look at your journey and plan to stop every couple of hours. Lots of websites tell you about service station facilities and some have soft plays/ playgrounds. Also look at places just of the motorway you can pull off and walk around at.

We are off to Cornwall again this year (couldn't face going abroad!) and it takes us around 7 hours with a stop for breakfast. We leave at 3 in the morning, breakfast at 7 then carry on the journey. He was as good as gold last year, may be different this year though!. Other than the M25 we don't go on the motorway so there is always somewhere to stop if need be. Happy holidays, i can't wait!.
