Mandatory that insurance pays for breast pumps!

Does medicaid have to pay for them as well?

my neighbor had medicaid and wic.....they provided her a manual breastpump 6 weeks after baby was born. They told her that babies should be exclusively bf for the first 6 weeks, so that's when they'd provide a pump.

May vary state to state tho.

If you look more into the Obamacare law you will find that those that were denied a pump previously or were told they had to pay out of pocket will find that this is because of the recent changes.

This law is for policies that renewed I believe (Dont have it in front of me) August 1 and later... those have to cover at 100% it's a federal law. When I called my insurance I requested they send me the coverage via email or hard copy so I could read/review it myself. I also submitted my order directly to lunacare.com who confirms the coverage and then lets you know what your policy states as well... so if you dont feel like you're getting the answers you want try the breast pump companies. They are up on the law since they are the ones collecting the money

I called and asked my insurance about this about a month ago. They told me they cover it 100% and it doesn't matter whether or not I meet my deductible it will be covered 100% no matter what. They also told me that I can not obtain a breastpump until after I give birth. I was afraid since they are "free" they might be cheap ones, but from the ones I have to choose from, they seem to have the really good hospital grade double electric pumps. I have United Healthcare.

You can order from lucinacare.com ahead of time if you have united healthcare. That site will take care of all the contacting of the insurance and such as well. They told me via email they can ship it the same month as your due date that it didnt have to be after delivery.

Thanks! Aren't you a wealth of information!?:flower:

My DH is a director for a health insurance company lol. It's not knowledge they want to share ;) But it's required that it be in print somewhere in their packets. Lets say they arent obamacare fans right now.

Haha! I'm sure they aren't, but I am! Free breast pump, yay!!!!

It makes me wonder...I'm doubly insured if I can pick which oe to go through like I do my meds.

I have double coverage as well. However, since the first insurance covers at 100% I didnt have to submit to secondary.

I just know that with mine insurances, we choose who covers the RX so I was wondering if we can choose who covers the pump as well. My secondary is through a hospital (primary is a state plan) so I'm likely to get a better selection through secondary

Hmm that I dont know. I would try placing your order through one of the sites that offer direct billing to the insurance company and only provide your secondary insurance. They wont ship unless the insurance approves the payment anyway so you really have nothing to lose.

I'll have to contact them, this sounds great. Thanks ~Brandy~! :D

ETA: Well, I contacted this Lucina Care and they don't cover Cigna so I'll have to call Cinga myself and see what their guidelines are. :(

I have BCBS and generally very good insurance and I just spoke to them today and they said they are not covering breast pumps unless you meet certain strict qualifications because they were "grandfathered" in... WTF???

I have heard of the grandfather clause I just havent ran across it. So I dont know anything about it. You might google it to see if you can find information on it or what the criteria is. It's generally easy to get a doctor to write a prescription for one or to state it is necessary if thats a requirement.

:growlmad:I JUST got told by BOON CHAPMAN that our company is grandfathered in and is "exempt from the new laws that take effect"... What Bullshit!!! Remind me again why i pay for insurance????:growlmad::growlmad:

If I have been understanding this correctly, if your policy is renewed, it is no longer grandfathered. Does that sound right, anyone?
