Marchlands

I have a feeling Olive killed Alice too. Perhaps Alice was pushed into the lake rather than fell. I don't know why a young child would purposely kill her friend, it must have been an accident but surrounded by something else, iykwim? Perhaps the grandad saw what happened but didn't do anything for a reason we're yet to find out? So many questions and theories!!

O, sorry for what? Sorry cos alice is dead or something else?

I still think the grandfather is heavily involved. I'm starting to think alice is the lovechild of ruth and the grandfather. Makes sense since Paul has low sperm count and alice would have to be a 'miracle' and the whole 'where were you ruth' thing

Not sure...will post the link to the DS thread for it,lots of theories on there :)

oh man thats a big thread LOL

Maybe Olive is the Grandfathers love child. There's no sign of her dad either.

If Olive did kill Alice perhaps her mum was in the woods to meet the grandad and the girls were left to play alone when something happened that caused Alice to fall into the water.

So he made up the story about the dog running off to cover up his affair.

yes that makes sense although evelyn the grandmother must have known as she reveals a big secret in an upcoming episode.

I think that's what happens. Just been thinking and I don't think Olive killed Alice. Like I said, why would a young child kill her friend? Perhaps Olive is the only one who saw what happened but was sworn to secrecy. The grandad didn't look as distraught at seeing Alice's body as I imagine most people would be at seeing their dead grandaughter. His character at the minute seems pretty quiet apart from the flashback he had of Alice's body. Maybe that's why Olive and Alice were friends in the first place? Because the grandad would take her over to Olive's house while he was having an affair with her mum?

Anyone know of any other programs like this?

It could have been an accident though. A game of tag that went wrong, Olive pushed too hard and knocked her in the water. Or an argument and she pushed her without meaning her to fall in the water. Or just a game of chase and Alice tripped.

Although it's not unheard of for children to kill children on purpose, but I don't think ITV would be quite brave enough to run with that, so I'm still thinking accident.

And the grandfather knew what had happened and that Olive had killed her before she was found in the pond but had to pretend otherwise to protect her and to keep his affair/love child secret.

His wife isn't stupid, so I think she'd have worked it out long ago that her husband had a mistress or a lovechild, But it was different then and they are catholic, so she wouldn't leave him. It might explain why she is so bitter.

But Alice looks scared when she is running through the woods looking behind her...also Mark is always, almost every episode shown running through that same bit of the woods....

True, it could have been accidental. Although had the grandad seen Alice fall into the water, would he not have ran over to try and save her? Or Olive at least have screamed for help. Alice wouldn't have been able to scream underwater so the grandad will most likely have been telling the truth that he hadn't heard her and didn't know she'd fallen in.

I wonder what Evelyn's secret is? Does she tell Paul or her husband? If it's Paul then maybe she tells him that his father had an affair and another child?

I do think Amy dies. Maybe she is the one haunting the house in the present day. not Alice like we assume? Or maybe they're there together. It seems odd that Scott is the only one that seems to have stuck around in the village.

Maybe he only saw her in the water after she died? So he might not have gone in to save her. If he was off with Olive's mum then he might not have been close enough to get there on time to save her.

And children do sometimes get quiet when they have done something wrong, especially if someone is hurt.

I haven't got a clue about Amy though. Or where her and Scott's parents are in 2011. I can't see that he would stay in the village all these years if something happened to Amy in 1987 and they had moved. Why would he stay without them, or come back later on his own?

But if something happened to Amy and they had left the house wouldn't they move away from the village?

I think Amy dies too and i do think shes haunting the present day house as she turns the taps off in the bath when nischa left them running.

An interestig point on DS referring to where alice drowned. A few people are saying that she was drowned in the bath and moved to the river and it seems really plausible. theres been loads of references to the bath and alice got very angry when baby alice was in the bath and old ruth said 'my daughter used to love her baths'. Also the doll in the bath in the 80s and the flooding and the teaser from next weeks shows scott in the bath drowning.

I think maybe Alice is the lovechild of ruth and robert and evelyn knows and drowned alice in the bath when ruth was away. I think olive saw her body being moved into the river

If Alices grandfather is actually her father, maybe her grandmother knew about it and in an act of revenge, killed her to hurt her husband and Ruth.
Alice would have been a constant reminder of their betrayal, so why not hurt them both in the most horrific way?
Olive could have seen it happen but as no one talks to her anyway, she never tells or the fact she's deaf could have been taken for granted.

If she was drowned in the bath then that would mean she was running through the woods for a different reason than we think then. Intresting!

We have only seen her running through the woods through paul and ruths nightmares haven't we? they think she died in the woods

from the flashbacks where we see Alice in the water, she is always moving her arms and legs,so I don't think she was killed anywhere but the woods...also,she always falls in with some force, isn't there a ledge before the water?could she have been pushed off there?xx

That's true. This is driving me mad now :haha:

I know but the flashbacks aren't proper flashbacks, they're dreams that ruth or paul had  Are they not? Maybe I'm wrong.
