What do you use? What should i be using, im using butter at the moment :)

I'd stick with unsalted butter. Margarine has trans fats which are incredibly bad for you.

Thanks, i did read somewhere that marg was made from the same stuff as plastic! Just thought i'd check

We use unsalted butter for baking and cooking but a butter-like spread for toast, sandwiches etc. I don't actually think there are any brands of margarine on the UK market now anyway but I think most have drastically reduced trans fat content anyway. If you're looking at buttery spreads, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter has 0.5g of trans fats per 100g so not exactly riddled. There's some okay info here - https://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/food/low_fat/spreadable-fats.htm

We use a mix of butter/spread because that's what we like and it all falls within our guideline amounts of salt etc. We don't use much though so it's not a huge issue.

I'd just use normal butter (ie I wouldn't bother using unsalted). I've made butter from scratch before and the amount of salt you need to put into it is so incredibly tiny (the tiniest pinch for a whole block) that I can't see it would affect a child badly.

Butter here. There's a vague idea going around that margarine use is associated with allergies.

At least in the US there are many different types of margarine and "buttery spreads." The one I use has no hyodrogenated oils and therefore no trans fat. I still wouldn't use it in large quantities but I prefer the taste over butter.

I use flora buttery. It tastes good and I can spread it without mangling the bread. That's pretty much all I worry about in something we use so little of

Butter.
I'm a big fan of real food. Real butter, whole milk, etc. I believe it's better for the body.

I have to use marg cos Maria is allergic to dairy but otherwise I'd definitely use butter.

I'm pleased I read this as we give him butter and I've always felt a bit bad about it, but now it looks like it may be better :)
