My husband said that his workmates have been saying we can claim something called marriage allowance because we are married and I don't work. I have never heard of this before. Anyone know anything about it?

It was on Martin money saving tips the other week. You have to claim it as your not working but it means you transfer some of your tax free allowance to your husband so he pays less tax or something along this lines I'm sure google can help. I don't claim it so can't point you in the right direction hopefully someone can.

Did you manage to find It? search for it on direct gov and you can apply online. One needs to earn under 11k and the rest of the allowance goes to the other partner as long as they earn between 11-43k. I applied and hubby got a letter through to say his tax code had changed. you can apply for a back date to last tax year too and you get a cheque through the post x

I managed to find the link but I just need to find my DH's details of how much he earnt last year so I can input it.

Just watch with back dating.... they just sent me a letter saying I owe them £212 and dh is owed £210 ha! I called and they've cancelled the back dating as that's what's messed it up, think it could be because I earned more that tax year but seemed silly chasing me for the amount they would transfer to dh!

Xx

Oh dear that sounds stressful! I hate dealing with stuff like this, I'm always paranoid they're going to be saying I owe them money a few years down the line!
