Can we have McDonalds milkshakes or do they have that soft ice cream in that we are told not to have?

To be honest i never thought about it, but i did have quite a few on my first pregnancy, and it never did her n e harm. she was born perfectly healthy. hope this helps

I have drunk loads (craving) during my pregnancy, x

Not supposed to have them as they have soft ice cream in which is unpasturised, that's what I was told anyway hun.

i agree with drazic - i'd steer clear as i'm sure they have the soft ice cream in them - i was a little miffed the other day when i realised i couldn't try the new mcflurry, but it's such a small price to pay for keeping little one safe.

We're not suppose to have the soft ice cream which you get from the ice cream van because its something to do with them not being cleaned daily so bacteria develop on them.

I know a few people who work in different McDonalds and they have to clean their machines at the end or begining of each shift, so that way the ice cream is always fresh.

I asked my MW this (and told her about the machines being cleaned etc) and she said it was fine.

I've just had a McFlurry and it was niiice!

I was told by my midwife that Mcdonalds Mcflurrys and milkshakes are a big nono.

you should avoid these !! there not safe to drink as its all un pateurised , thats the milk shakes and ice cream there

i'm not sure that it's not pasteurised - i don't think they'd be allowed to sell it without saying so - but i think it's the fact that it's kept kind of half frozen, which is a good environment for bacteria to thrive in, which is why you shouldn't re-freeze ice cream if it thaws. kind of makes you think twice about it any way!!

thanks girls, think I will stear clear. Have a massive craving though!

I was told no. Because of the machine they come out off they are not cleaned correctly. I was never told not to have ice cream just not to have it out of the machines.

Damn, damn, damn. And I have been drinking these things like water since I've been pregnant. Whyyyyyyyyy???????

*has a moment of silence*

Okay well, the next step is...making my own.

Making my own, hmmmmmmmm, good idea!

I just looked it up and according to The American pregnancy association we are not supposed to have soft ice cream because it could contain the bacteria listeria. If a pregnant woman contracts this is can cause miscarriage, premature birth or still birth.
That really sucks cause i love soft ice cream!! :nope:

Yep they are a no no in pregnancy. I have worked in a Mcdonalds when I was younger and although the machines are cleaned everyday the icecream used is unpasturised and thats why you have to stay away.

I have to admit I can't stop thinking of mr whippy ice cream and come the summer I hope I can resist temptation. Especially as I tend to lick the girls when I get them one since theirs melts everywhere lol. x

just got this from macdonalds website
McDonald's has two types of milkshake machines. One pasteurises the milk every night and is taken apart and cleaned once a week. The other one is disassembled and sanitised every night. The milk can be topped up, but is completely discarded every week. This way, McDonald's can ensure its' milkshakes are always safe to drink.

so atleast we no there pasteurised!!! as ive been drinking them didnt even enter my head not to, have done in all my pregnancies.

I found this for you girls (question 4) https://www.makeupyourownmind.co.uk/questions/whats-in-the-food/ice-cream/#question4 xxx

I would stick to the plan of keeping safe and making your own hun xx

oh no girls i had an icecream from the icecream van today i didnt know i wasnt allowed it and ive been so careful im really worried now should i go docs or mention it to the midwife?
