Jack (12.5 months) has a really bad habit of chucking most of his food on the floor! I know it's totally normal for babies to chuck food on the floor, but it's getting ridiculous I have no problem with him doing it when he doesn't like the food or he is full, but he does it with food he likes and wants For instance, give him a bit of tomato (one of his faves) and he'll bite a bit off and chuck the rest on the floor and then reach out for more! His favourite food at the moment is cheese and he'll do it with that too We've done BLW weaning (alongside spoon feeding when needed) from the start so it's not as if finger foods are novel to him.
We've never been able to just put food on his highchair and let him help himself because when he's got food in his mouth he, for some reason, feels the need to throw the rest of it on the floor! But even when we hand him food bit by bit he throws it then puts his hand out for more
We have a dog and obviously he's enjoyed seeing the dog eat the food he throws down, so I think that's got something to do with it, but he does it even when we're out somewhere and the dog isn't there - it's just become a habit now!
I know you're supposed to take food away when they deliberately throw it on the floor, but if we did that, he literally wouldn't eat anything!
This has all been made even worse by the fact that with his yoghurt or weetabix etc, he has to spoon feed himself. This would be great (as he's actually very good at it) if he didn't keep throwing the spoon away, even when I'm pretty sure he wants more!
Am getting very frustrated!
