Hi Katherine,

No you're not alone!!

I've been on Metformin for about a month now too. Going to see my Gyno tomorrow to get some tests done to see if I ovulated/pregnant etc. Been trying nearly 2 1/2 years but decided to be more proactive about it last few months.

How about you?

no one really :(
I'm all alone on this journey :(

nope your not alone lol, I have just started Metformin for the first time too, on day 6 of it and tomorrow will be increasing dosage

am on Provera too to induce af, and one she arrives will be on Clomid days 1-5 this time....have done 3-7 and 5-9 few years back, but am doing everything FS wants to the letter!

Interested to see how Metformin helps this time round

hey:) I'm in the same boat as you! I've been TTC for nearly 5 years now bt have only just started to be proactive about it. I went and lost 20kgs first and then went to see my Gyno. I'm just hoping Metformin does what it's meant to do

I wish in a way by gyno would put me on Clomid straight away, but she wants to see if i can get pregnant on Metformin a lone.
Are you having any of the mean symptoms with Metformin ?

Hi Katherine! I'm also a Metformin gal. I've been on it since August and have been at the full dosage since mid September. This month is the first month that I'm having a normal cycle and I'm so excited about it!

My side affects from Metformin have been some diarrhea and upset stomach, but it's also helped me lose 46 pounds! YAY!

I had bad cramps and running to the loo (sorry tmi) on the first day of met, some bloating and mild nausea, but helped by being on 500mg first week and eating healthy..ish! i'm just increasing to 1000mg a day so we'll see whether i'm still lucky with the symptoms. I just say to myself if it hurts or i am having side affects it must mean its working! hehe

lets suck it up ladies, if it gets us our bpfs then so be it! Though i would be sure to take multi vit and extra b6 as met is supposed to deplete b vitamin reserves.

maybe you could try getting a second opinion? I have read that clomid+met together are meant to have a greater effectiveness? See if perhaps another fs would give you the clomid, find it hard to see why they wouldn't , its normally the quickest, cheapest and easiest first step for fs/gynae's to prescribe to women.

Hi. I started met last month. I started with 500mg a day and have worked up to the 1500mg I am on now. When I went to refill my prescription the pharmacy told me they were out of he same kind and needed to change brands. I have been going thru a lot of the symptoms I had when I first started. Has anyone else experienced this?

No sorry hun, i had no idea there were different brands, can you maybe go get a script and get the same brand you were on at the start :) ?

I didn't know either, and when i asked about it causing bad sypmtoms again, they told me the only difference is that the pills had a berry flavor, and nothing else would be different. I think i'll ask at the pharmacy to switch it back when i need to refill. (if i am still having terrible symptoms) since they are the ones who changed it they should be able to change it back??

Hey! I have been on Metformin since August I started at 250mg and worked up to 1500... It makes me so sick... and I just never know when the "sickness" is going to hit... The diarrhea gets so bad that i have to use diaper rash cream... TMI... I can go 2 weeks without side effects and then BAM... i nearly crap my pants at the grocery store. It seems that If i stay between 1000mg and 1250mg things stay pretty level. Although after all this struggle to take these pills.... I almost got a positive on my opk last month, AND my cycle was only 30days!!!! OMFG! i just couldn't be happier right now. I would love to chat with all of you! please keep posting!

Jessesgirl: They should totally be able to change it back for you... FX'd!

If you guys have been using metformin for a while and still can't stomach it, you should ask your doctor about extended release! I could only stomach 1000mg of metformin and still got bad diarrhea sometimes. I started with 1000mg of extended release and worked up to 2000mg over 3 weeks. You take it all at one time, but the pills are HUGE. It gradually works through your body during the day. I take them at night so I have a BM in the morning, usually after my bowl of cereal. It also gives me hunger at just the right times of day. I have to eat 3 meals which I wasn't doing before. I've been taking it for almost 2 months. Didn't expect to ovulate so fast, but I just got my BFP! Good luck to all you ladies.

I'm also on the extended release and while I notice that I have diarrhea on a fairly regular basis (maybe 0-2 times a day no more then that), it's been pretty manageable. I'm also very happy to report that 3 months after starting metformin, I've got my hormone levels back to normal, my insulin resistance is noticeably heading down to normal, my blood pressure is normal, my bad cholesterol is normal, and my good cholesterol is heading up to normal range. I've also lost a total of 48 pounds. So to me, the minimal discomfort that I have with the diarrhea is totally worth it for those kinds of results.

Hey :happydance: welcome :)
wow congrats on the "nearly" positive opk, keep us updated please :)

I will def look into getting the extended release pills! I have my follow up apt on Dec 7th... I'm so nervous for it... My head just keeps saying "clomid clomid GIVE me clomid" but my heart says to stay on the Metformin get my health cycle's back on track!

Just a tip my obgyn told me - take the metformin with milk. I drink a half a glass first - it coats the stomach and then down the other half with the pills. Or have it with milk/cereal. The Dairy really helps it - i ran out of milk one day and the side effects were like day one all over again.

Hi Laides,

Can i join???

I just started Metformin today! I went to se my FS yesterday (I have PCOS and am insulin resistant) as I'm having problems still with thrush and controlling my blood sugar, even tho I have totally changed my diet and don't eat many carbs.

And she has put me on Metformin and Glucobay..... anyone else on Glucobay?? She also said to take a teaspoons of olive oil every morning before breakfast, as this helps with the insulin resistance.

Welcome! The metformin helped me tremendously. I hope it helps you as much as it did me! I've not heard of Glucobay so I can't help you there.
