Metformin Club :)

Hi Laides,

Can i join???

I just started Metformin today! I went to se my FS yesterday (I have PCOS and am insulin resistant) as I'm having problems still with thrush and controlling my blood sugar, even tho I have totally changed my diet and don't eat many carbs.

And she has put me on Metformin and Glucobay..... anyone else on Glucobay?? She also said to take a teaspoons of olive oil every morning before breakfast, as this helps with the insulin resistance.

Hey Hun welcome :hugs:
How much Metformin are you on a day?
Good luck with the yucky symptoms, hey maybe you'll be lucky and get none lol

I've started on one slow release tablet per day, for one week, then it gets up to two. So far, my side affect have not been too bad, but i'll see when the does gets upped!

I can feel the difference all ready, I feel a lot more relaxed and my blood sugar is not all over the place.

How much met are you guys on?

I'm on 2k per day. I noticed that I had some side effects for a few days after the start of a new dosage. Once I got onto the full dosage, I had pretty minimal side effects and the pros waaaaay outweighed the cons with the amount of weight it helped me lose, and the fact that it got my hormones into normal levels again.

Good luck for all of you ladies that are taking or starting on metformin!

I was on metformin for a week and i couldn't handle it! the side effects where terrible, especially since i'm in cosmo school and cant just run the the bathroom every time a get an urge.... ughh... so frustrating...do you think if i took imodium (anti-diareah(sp:)) with it, would it help?

dodgercpkl how long were you taking metformin and do you have any tips???

Hi guys! I just started metformin yesterday and I've already experienced the wonderfulness of being afraid to leave the house and my toilet lol
I'm hoping that will go away soon! I was supposed to go to the store today but I'm sticking close to home.

I've been on metformin now for a bit over a month :)
all symptom are slowly going so it's worth just sticking to it for a bit, it does ease off ever so slowly lol

I have just realized i have accidentally missed the last two days oops !!!!

There's not much that would make me stop taking it. I need all the help I can get! I can handle with being changed to the toilet, I can always send my DH out to go shopping!

I'm still on it and I'll stay on it through the pregnancy. :) I started taking Metformin in August 2011. My endocrinologist prescribed the extended release version and had me start with one 500mg pill a day for 2 weeks and then add a 500mg pill to the routine every 2 weeks until I was at the full dosage. I think both of those things really helped my body get used to the metformin and not react as much.

I also found that metformin would react to the things I ate. If I ate something high in bad carbs or sugar, I could pretty much expect a trip to the bathroom right afterwards.

OMG i can't believe how excited i am, AF is so on her way, i just went to the toilet and wiped blood
I can't believe how Metformin has shortened my cycles, am.so.excited !!!

I am so in love with Metformin :thumbup::kiss:

I'm on cycle day 34 today, so hopefully AF is here within the next 2 days.....

That's great!!! The long cycles frustrate the hell out of me too. I started spotting yesterday and I'm still spotting today, I'm hoping I can call tomorrow CD 1.

:hi: ladies,

I was put on Metformin on the 18th November, as the gynae thinks the PCOS and high testosterone is causing my MCs. I started on 1 x 500mg per day and have worked up to 3 x 500mg. I've had a few side effects, mostly sickness, but they seem to be easing. My cycles have been all over the place, ranging from 30days to 50days, the 30 days cycles last year were because I took SOY. I nearly always OV (hence being pregnant twice this year), but it can be anywhere from CD16 to CD35....

I am CD16 today and I got a positive OPK last night and a PEAK on my CBFM this morning. I'm hoping that the Metformin will help me get pregnant again and help me keep my baby...

Good luck Pink! :hugs:

CD 1 today!! Woohoo! This will be my first cycle taking chlomid as well. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!

This month is the first month that I'm having a normal cycle and I'm so excited about it!

ok, I am back with an update. i have been on Met since October I had my brand changed by the pharmacy in November, which gave me the opportunity to start all the lovely symptoms all over :( it seems to have easied off now, and it seems to be working. I usually have very random cycles. 35 days to over 70 days. I was disagnosed with PCOS, and started Met with in the first week i got a visit from AF exactly 28 days later AF again, and another 28 days bam AF. This is more regular than I have ever been. I have High hopes that this will continue to work. The symptoms have also started to be less and less. somedays I have no symptoms at all and other days I have to run to the bathroom. at least that is better than constantly feeling gross. Unfortunatley we just found out that my husband doesn't produce very much semen (the sperm that are there is good, but there isn't much there apparently) so I also have an appt with the Victoria Fertility Clinic next week, the DR there is Dr Hudson, and i have heard great things... hopefully we will get our BFP soon.
