Middle of the night pumping pals

We'll see how much I get during this last pumping session. If I get more than an ounce, this will officially be my highest output day so far! I really hope so!

First time in a while I've pumped in the middle of the night. DS has been waking up to nurse again! He hasn't done this in months. But I'm pumping now. So hopefully he sleeps through this one!!

That's always our fear, isn't it? :haha:

Last night worked out really well timing-wise! DD woke up a few minutes after my alarm went off at 2. I didn't end up pumping afterward because it took 1.5 hours to get her sound asleep and back in her bassinet and I opted for another hour of sleep before my alarm went off instead of pumping. She slept really well after going back to bed, slept through my alarm and I was able to take a shower and get everything ready for the day before I had to wake her up to change her diaper and feed her before we left! Showers are one of those things we take for granted before having babies. Showers and sleep. :haha: I actually had her wet diaper off of her before she even opened her eyes. She was in a great mood, too, which was wonderful. It's great being greeted with sleepy smiles in the morning instead of grumpy complaints.

Oh showers.... my favorite time of the day. If I get one... lol

Man, I can't believe how difference much the milk thistle/fennel supplement I'm taking makes! I had such weak let downs last week because I had run out in the bag of vitamins I take to work with me and just hadn't bothered to refill. Today I'm back to huge let downs from multiple pores! At least on the right side... The left side still leaves something to be desired, but it's slightly better. FX today I'll be able to beat my 9 oz pumped from Friday! I currently have 4.5 oz pumped, but my first pumping session was cut pretty short and I only had 1.5 oz.

Awesome! Glad to hear it is working so well!!

Last night went well, except that for some reason I wasn't able to pump much in my normal 30 minutes. I've noticed during the day I've been having to pump longer periods of time to get the same output, too. I was only able to get a little under 1 oz in 30 mins after putting DD to bed even though by that time it had been at least an hour since I had actually fed her. Then I pumped at 2 am without feeding her first and it took me 45 mins to squeeze out 2.5 oz. She woke up as I was finishing pumping and she was fussy due to the really slow flow.

Such a rollercoaster...

I am taking blessed thistle and milkmaids tea. I have been able to pump about 3 more oz total at work after taking it for 5 days. I get about an oz more durring my night pump too. Today I got these hot pack things that you can wrap around your flanges while pumping to keep the flow going better. I hope it works!!

I love the Therapearls Kaja! They really help when clogs come around too! Glad to hear the blessed thistle is working!!

Woohoo! I got 1 more oz out of my "dud boob" than normal! Woop woop! My first 4oz pump!!

I bought a set of the therapearls, but I haven't tried it yet. Do they help with everyday pumping or are they mostly helpful when you have clogs?

I'm hesitant to try any of the teas because they all have fenugreek, which makes DD very gassy and fussy! Part of me is tempted to try one anyway, but I really don't want to make her fussy again! Since there are reviews on that particular tea not agreeing with LOs, I probably shouldn't. :(

Great job Kaja!!

None of the teas or supplements helped me with production, but the Mother's milk tea did seem to help get the flow going!! It does have fenugreek but not in the amounts of the 9 pills they say to take every day! lol. And I haven't taken that in a couple of months, and my flow is still improved from before, so who knows if it was the tea or not... the only thing that helped my production is hands on pumping.

Good luck!

All of my pumping is hands on pumping! LOL

If I don't use compression, not much of anything really comes out. At least not with the pump. DD seems to do just fine.

I managed to pump 10 oz yesterday! I was so excited. I could have gotten more, but I ran out of time.

Last night went well, too! I'm glad I have a 2 am pumping alarm because DD slept until after 4! So was able to send a total of 14 oz with her today. That feels great! Here's hoping for more days like that, and better.

I did discover last night the source of DD's fussiness and diarrhea. Because I've had it, too. Apparently moringa leaves act as a laxative in large doses! So I'll be going back down to 6 capsules a day rather than the 9 I've been taking. At least it isn't the probiotics after all, since those are helping her to digest the formula.

Great job Lenora!! That is so exciting!! And so glad to hear DD is sleeping better.

Last night and 2 nights ago I didn't end up pumping because DS woke up in the middle of the night to nurse. TWICE! I don't know if it's because of the solids, or because I should give him more solids. Or just change up the time I give him some maybe? I will have to figure out something!

Is he getting solids in the evening? I'm not sure if that would affect his sleep. I've read that you can't depend on baby sleeping more by giving them solids, though you would think that would be the case because I'd imagine it would take longer to digest.

He is getting a little bit in the morning, and sometimes a little at night, sometimes not. He is sleeping so much worse than he was before solids. And he is getting much at all. I want him to have mostly milk. He doesn't drink as much during the day any more, so he is making up for it at night now.

Is he refusing feeds during the day when you offer or is he just not acting hungry for them? If you aren't already, you could offer more feeds during the day. Even if he doesn't take much, it may be enough to make a difference.

Maybe he just isn't quite ready for solids yet. You could always wait a week or maybe even a few weeks and try again to see how he does. Is he otherwise doing okay on solids? No weird poop or reactions?

Lanorajoy - great job on the extra oz!! I find the therapearls helpful for everyday pumping. Especially when I am at work because the office I pump in is frequently cold. My pumped milk is more fatty when I use them too. I hope it is helping me drain more completely so my body will kick up production a bit more!
They do make teas without fenugreek if you want to give those a try. (I have seen them in Amazon) When I was nursing DS3 I had a crazy low supply. Always had to supplement. In the 10 hours I was away at work (including travel) I was lucky to pump 8oz and literally nothing worked to boost my supply. When he was 6 months old he started biting really bad and between the fight to maintain even a meagre supply, the fact I am in chronic pain and really missed my pain meds, and then the biting I threw in the towel and switched him to all formula. It was the best thing for me at the time. One month later I found out that the reason for my low supply was hypothyroidism! I was so sad knowing if I had found that out earlier I could have had a better supply without the fight. Now, two years later, with DR I have my thyroid levels in check and things are much better! I still have pcos to combat in the supply department but now, thanks to the pearls and suppliments, I can usually get out 12 oz at work and 2 durring my night pump to stash away.

He is handling solids well. He is taking milk, but not as much, he just doesn't seem as hungry during the day, so I decrease the small amount of solids he is getting, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I just have to find a pattern that works better for us.
