Middle of the night pumping pals

That is scary. I've been there before too. Talking to DH always helps. Sleep for mom is always more important than pumping if we aren't getting enough

 I don't remember the last time I got enough sleep! Although I think I may have finally figured out how to get DD to go to bed before 10:30. She was sleeping pretty restlessly last night like she typically does until it's late. Finally I put her on my shoulder and rocked and patted her back (her favorite way to go to sleep lately) and she was fast asleep in no time. We'll be out tonight, but I'll try that around 7-8 the next few nights and see if we can finally get to bed at a decent time! I always have things to do after I get her to bed, so it would be nice if I could get started on those a couple of hours earlier and get to bed myself before 11 on a regular basis. Last night was 11:30-12... Granted, I actually got her to bed around 9:30, so that wasn't her fault.

I've noticed the earlier DS goes to sleep, the longer and BETTER he sleeps! The morebnaosbhe takes during the day, the longer and better he sleeps at night too!

So someone decided she would not set an alarm to pump and just feed DS when he woke at 3am. Then didn't pump after he ate. And woke up to feed and pump at 6:30. Clog City.

But I just took those suckers down! I guess I have to weigh sleep with clogs.

What is this . "Enough sleep" you speak of? Lol
I have never had a plugged duct, but when I sleep through my night pump I am uncomfortably full in the morning and DD doesn't like it

Ooh, ouch! Clogs are terrible.

I wish I could have gotten DD to bed early last night, but we had music practice at church. We were home a little after 8, so it wasn't terribly late, but by the time DD was done eating and fast asleep it was 10:30. She woke up at the usual 1:30 to eat. I tried to get back to bed a little before 4 so I could actually take a shower this morning, but of course she was having none of that and wanted to eat again. So I ended up having about 20 minutes to get ready this morning!

Both of our sitters are unavailable to watch her tomorrow, so I get to spend my Friday at home with my baby! <3 Hopefully tonight we can go to bed early and get lots of sleep! And maybe even take some naps tomorrow. ;)

Hey, for those of us prone to clogs! I just read that taking soy or sunflower lecithin makes the milk less sticky to prevent clogs and treat current ones. Maybe we should look into that, tiny. :)

Yeah, I take soy lecithin, it does help. But I've been more reactive with it than proactive. I haven't taken it in a while.

Baby in bed before 9!! :o Here's hoping for a good night for both of us.

So the last 3-4 nights, I haven't been pumping, but have been getting up, usually twice, to nurse DS. I don't want to pump AND give him a bottle, and I didn't want DH to get up to give him a bottle, no need in both of us losing out on sleep. But... I think my overall supply has suffered from it! My body just can't regulate a milk supply for a sleeping baby! That was how I got into trouble to begin with! When DS started sleeping 6 hour stretches, my body stopped keeping up! I'm grateful for the invention of breast pumps, or else my baby would have starved (in pre-formula invented times).

So here I am. Pumping at night. I'll have to work hard to get myself boosted back up. At least now I have a nice frozen and refrigerated cushion.

When I move further from work in a couple of months, I hope I can keep up while sleeping through the night. Because I won't be able to keep this schedule and still get the sleep I need to function!

TinyLynn, have you heard of freemi cups? They are a pump attachment that go on your bra and make it easier to pump while holding baby/giving him a bottle. Maybe that would help? They are a bit spendy though. I had them when DS3 was a baby and liked them a lot. I have them away and haven't bought any yet this time.
I got a new pump! My other one is from 2 years ago and made it through me pumping 6 months, then my friend pumping occasionally for a year, and back to me. I figured I get a free one with each baby so why not? It is the same kind but the flanges are a little different. Is it sad I got excited about it?

I could look into it. But I just nurse him if I haven't pumped yet. If I have, he would get a bottle.

Thanks for the recommendation!!

Oooh that makes sense. Sorry for some reason I thought you exclusively pumped. I claim "baby brain" lol

LOL so that early bed time was a false alarm. She was up about 30 mins later. I didn't do any pumping from the time I came home Thursday afternoon until 2am this morning. DD woke and ate enough for the most part that I didn't feel the need to pump between feedings. And no formula for her the whole 3-day weekend! Except Sunday morning when I didn't have time to feed her again before we left for music practice. Hopefully I have a good output now that I'm back to work. It will be strange if she gets enough to eat for 3 days with no formula and then eats more than I'm able to pump while with the sitter.

I finally pumped 4 oz for the very first time this morning! I started taking fenugreek again and so far so good! It doesn't seem to be bothering DD this time and seems to have given me a boost! I'm increasing the dose a little bit more today because my pee does not yet smell like maple syrup. Not something I ever thought I'd want.

Omg I feel so silly sniffing while I am going pee to see if I am taking enough lol. I have taking 2 caps 3 times a day and still no syrup smell. I took a break for a week because I was getting bloted and had gas pains, but it hasn't gone away so I wonder if it is just my crummy digestive system flairing up. My supply hasn't gone down, but I want more of an increase.
DR has a stuffed up nose and sometimes she won't nurse because of it. :( I don't mind giving her bottles and pumping occasionally but I hope it doesn't turn into "a thing" even after she is better.

I'm now taking 4 caps 3x a day and still don't smell like maple syrup. Though it does smell different, so I wonder if that's good enough? I think the highest dose listed on kellymom is 14 caps a day, so I can't really increase it much more.

And unfortunately I got my hopes up unnecessarily the other day. I still only pumped 9.5 ounces despite starting out with 4... The other sessions always seem to decrease when I have a large yield in the morning. And yesterday I only managed to pump a total of 8 oz... Granted, my first pump of the morning was delayed an hour and a half and from there I was just trying to play catch up. My last pump was very short, so I could have gotten more.

My pee never smelled like it, but my armpits sure did!!

I hope it helps you guys! All it did for me was make DS really gassy and uncomfortable. And no more milk.

The good thing about it is that when you stop, your supply should stay up. Assuming milk is still being removed frequently and efficiently.

Well, we'll see how the rest of the day goes (trying to be cautious!), but I have nearly 7 oz pumped in 2 sessions! That's a first for sure! So I'm going to keep up the fenugreek dose unless it starts to make DD gassy and uncomfortable and see how things go! I could have probably pumped more, but I needed to get back to work. FX the next session yields at least 2 oz!
