Hi

I would love to give birth in our local midwife led unit at our local hospital. But.... I just checked my BMI and It's 33.5 which means I can gain another 10lbs but if I gain more my BMI will be 35+ which means I don't meet the criteria for the unit.

I am nearly 31 weeks pregnant.

Is it likely I will put on another 10lbs in 9 weeks?

It's stressing me out for some reason- as I know it's my own fault. Did so well till 24 weeks and then started eating a bit more!!!! :-(

Xx

Did they say it would be your BMI at the end of pregnancy?

With mine, they used my starting BMI as the point of reference but not sure if it's different for home birth x

My Obgyn and midwives don't weigh you after the initial booking appointment. Everything goes off the booking weight

It's usually done on booking weight/BMI as that's the closest to your normal/non-pregnant body, so you may be ok - definitely something to find out! :-)

Yes double check whether it is your starting BMI they go by, as that is normal practice. It's hard to say whether you'll gain 10lbs in 9 weeks; 3rd tri is when you are "supposed" to put the most weight on, and LO bulks up so that adds to your total weight, but it isn't the case for everyone.

I'm in agreement with the other ladies. I'm 99% sure this is based on your booking BMI. I am also hoping to give birth in midwife led unit and have always been led to believe this is the case.

It will be your booking/non-pregnant BMI. I was never actually weighed during pregnancy. They just asked me my weight (pre-pregnancy) at booking and calculated my BMI then. I'm not small but it wasn't over 35 either. I had a home birth and BMI wasn't even raised as something to measure or discuss when planning for them to attend my birth. You'll be fine.

Yes, I'm pretty sure they go off the weight you were at your booking appointment early on in pregnancy
