Hey ladies. Ive bought the milton cold water steriliser and was just wondering what were your experineces of it? I originally thought it was a great idea, but am now doubting myself a little. Does it make the bottles and teats have a strong chemical taste or smell? xx

hiya hun i had a cold water sterlizer i had to stop using it has it was making the teats go white! but if i was you id leave them in for an hour then take them out! i ended up buying an avent steam sterlizer xx

i use the milton cold water sterlizing tablets when visiting my mum n dads, I only leave them in for the min of 15mins even though you can leave them overnight but i did this and like above poster said they go white also i noticed a kind of film over them.

Yes leaves a strong smell, it reminds me of bleach (that just my sense of smell) so i used to give them quick rinse out with boiled water just to get rid of the milton water droplets if that makes sense.

It does leave quite a strong smell/taste, but it doesn't bother me. I found it far more convenient than using my electric steam steriliser as I could leave everything in there. It does make the teats go cloudy, but I don't think that's a problem - just makes them look a bit weird. They use milton buckets in hospital, which is where I first used one. my midwife also said not to worry about the milton droplet left on teats etc, it's safe to be consumed - although I wouldn't want LO drinking pints of it :haha: I use MAM self sterilising bottles now, you don't need a steriliser at all then

I used one for 3 weeks while i was abroad. After about 1 week the teats started turning white. It does has a very strong smell. Not sure about the taste though. It didn't bother LO at all xx

Thanx for the replies ladies. The main reason I was concerned was that I didnt want the smell/taste to put LO off drinking from her bottles. The smell and clouding of teats wouldnt bother me. I do actually have the MAM self sterilising bottles so if baby cant stand the smell/taste I have a back-up plan xxx

i loved our milton cold water! best thing we ever brought for our first daughter! yep teats etc go white if left in to long, but i happen to love the milton smell and i found it great for everything, not just bottles :D

When alfie was first born i had a microwaveable avent steriliser. it was pants!! we then got the milton cold water steriliser and its great, so convinient and it sterilises after 15 mins. My teats have never gone white though  the smell and taste has never put alfie off his bottle iether.

If you have the MAM bottles anyway, definitely use the self sterilising function - it's great and so easy. The parts in a MAM bottle aren't great in milton, there's a rubber valve which can eventually weaken if it's left in all the time. I still use milton for sterilising other stuff like dummies, so it's definitely useful to have. x x
