HI LADIES,

I have been doing some research on low progesterone post mirena removal. Has anyone had this happen? Any success stories with progesterone cream? And how and when do you use it?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Bee

Sorry I can't help, I haven't had any experience but you have got me thinking - I had marina coil removed about 2 years ago and ever since I've suffered from hormonal acne and tender breasts, and when I googled it, low progesterone came up as a possible cause.

I've just had my 21day blood tests taken so should know soon.

Good luck x

I have heard that from tons of people. Mirena has artificial progesterone and it pumps you full of it all month, to prevent ovulation. Supposedly your body just forgets how to make it after so long.

My face gets covered in acne too, my bbs hurt for a week before af. I also am very depressed, and have zero sex drive. Never happened before.

Hi I had my first mirena removed march 2011 and it took 3 cycles to get pg. Had my last coil removed in Nov to try for no. 2. So we are currently on cycle 2. I never had any probs hun x

That's great. But not everyone is so lucky.. :(

Baby Dust!!

Mine was a little white implant. Plastic. Is that what you had?

eventually your body will come around but the problem with using other artificial hormones (like progesterone cream) is that your body will do the same thing it did with mirena...it wont produce as much (if any) progesterone because it's getting it from an outside source. The body doesn't "forget" how to produce progesterone with these things, it is quite smart actually and it stops manufactoring it on purpose bc it says "hey, i no longer need to spend energy creating this hormone since i have enough [from an outside source]." Sadly, all you can really do is just wait for your body to start regulating itself. This is a problem with most types of hormonal birth control. Personally, i was on the pill and still had this issue. again, bc the body wont waste energy manufactoring something it realizes it doesn't need. Waiting is the best bet. they say most womens cycles will return to normal within the first 6 months, typically within the first 3 (maybe even sooner). I wished i would have listened to that coming off the pill because i got pregnant my first cycle off and then i ended up MCing, and im quite certain it was bc of low progesterone. Had i waited, i wouldn't have had a loss.

Im not sure if you chart BBT or not, but i would *highly* suggest it. It can tell you many things, not just when you ov, but it can tell you how long your LP is, which would be a good indication if you have sufficient progesterone levels or if it has increased month to month.

I have actually been tested. I have something like a .4. I have been off of the mirena for 2 1/2 years. I don't see why it has yet to regulate. I was ppregnant in two months with my son.

oh wow! Sorry, hon i didn't realize it was that long
in that case i would seriously be pushing the doctors for progesterone injections!
Or at least Rx Progesterone cream and then once you get a BFP get the progesterone injections.

oh....i would def be demanding the injections, quite honestly.
until then, i have been using a progesterone cream from GNC. I use it for a (sort of) different reason. I dont have enough breast tissue to feed my baby, bc of low progesterone, and it can help build breast tissue. So i used it during my pregnancy and i did see some result. It was not a miracle worker or anything like that :nope: it was very subtle, but it was enough that DH noticed and im producing about twice the amount i was with DS1 (with my milk supply) My point is, maybe it could at least help you? Do you have a GNC near by? You'll want to make sure its "All Natural USD Progesterone" cream. Be sure to read the fine print. STAY AWAY from anything that says it's synthetic! Synthetic = BAD for pregnancy! Make SURE it's not a progestin. that is NOT the same as Progesterone.

I actually bought the gnc brand a few days ago. Just watching to confirm ovulation before I start using it. Do you know how to use it? And when?

oh nice!
so i used a little amount two times per day. i tried to be very particular about taking it at the same time everyday. it's a hormone and the body will keep expecting it, so timining is imperative, imo. i took it at 9am and 9pm everyday. Take it when its convienant for you. Try to take it 12 hours apart. Read the bottle for he amount. tbh, i never really measured i just put some where i wanted it lol. Make sure that you are alternative positions of where you apply it. Alternate between the chest, the neck (like where perfume goes), your wrists (where you can see the veins), and on the inner thighs. These places are the good spots to get the progesterone to really absorb. Alternate locations each time you apply the cream. For instance on saturday in the morning, put it on your neck. at night put it on your thighs. then on sunday put it on your wrists, then at night onto your chest, etc. Just try to alternate. I was reading about "progesterone build up". which really can happen and that's what you are trying to avoid.
i hope this helps! this may be a little different than the directions say but i spent a lot of time reading up on using progesterone cream and thats what was really important (timing, spacing between applications, and location on body).

Once you know fer sure that you ov.ed then start it ASAP. If AF arrives, stop using it on CD1 and resume use once you are certain you oved.

Thank you so much for your help! Is the gnc brand ok?

Is this the stuff you got from GNC? If it is, thats what i bought from there. and yes it is okay. if it's not this, youd have to check the label. if its says progestin anywhere on there, take it back. you want to avoid progestin. The label should say "All Natural USD Progesterone" that is what you are looking for. progesTIN is bad as it's synthetic and very bad for a developing baby.

bGully, I've had mine removed 2 years ago and have estrogen dominance. I'm not sure if it's because of the progesterone in the IUD but I use progesterone cream for PMS day 21-28 and then Vitex to help balance my hormones from CD1-O as per my naturopath doctor. This has really helped, in fact my cycle got shorter in Sept and I got pregnant for the first time in 15 months. I had always been on it but she upped my dose in Aug/Sept and bam, BFP! I was also using softcups which I believe helped too.

I think there is something to the Mirena/progesterone and Accutane drying up the body's ability to be fertile. I've taken accutane twice and was diagnosed this year with premature ovarian failure. The u/s only had 1 antral follie left when I should have between 9-30 for my age. I think the supplements have helped though because on my u/s after my m/c in Oct there are now 4 working antral follies. I'm taking lots of antioxidants and DHEA too. The FC gave me prometrium suppositories and has ordered me to take baby aspirin if i get preggers again. IVF coming in March if nothing happens before then.
