Talked to my Dr yesterday and he suggested Mirena- it sounded good to me but it seems like a lot of people online have weight gain issues with it. My Dr said it does not cause weight gain!

Any good or bad experiences with it are appreciated! Would love to hear before I have it put in!

Had one, loved it loved it loved it. Did not gain weight. Loved it. Gonna get another as soon as I am good to have one.

I have one :flower: I haven't had any problems with weight gain, but I have been bleeding since I got it in, which was 2 months ago. I also get horrible cramping constantly & I know that's not normal. I booked an appt. to get it checked out next week. Everyone's body is different, so you could very well have a great experience with it

Had it for 4 years before LO. Absolutely adored it and can't wait to get another one (have to wait 3 months pp coz of c section).

It can take up to 6 months for your periods to settle down though on it. My periods stopped :)

I did a Google search too and saw people complaining about weight gain. My doctor recommended Mirena but I've had issues on BC before - the pill makes me LOOPY and I spot a lot when I'm on it. I am worried about the hormonal side effects, and now I guess I'm worried about weight gain. Glad to hear some positive experiences.

I had it for 8 months and just recently got it taken out on the 1st.

It was fine at first, no complaints. Then I started bleeding, cramping, breaking out, etc all in the last month I had it. It still didn't bother me and I still like it and would recommend it. I decided to take it out though because we are going to TTC in a year and I'd like my cycle to be back to normal and I also decided I didn't want anything physically or chemically in me, kwim? I didn't have weight gain but I did notice it stopped me from loosing weight. I dropped like 7lbs overnight from having it removed.

i had mine in for about 6 months or something.
i got on with it okay but i did have a couple of bouts of dodgy bleeding.
it didnt stop my periods fully, although it might've done in time.

had one fitted 4 weeks ago, so far ok, installing it was uncomfortable but barable but have been spotting ever since :( so sex life is driving me insane! got a position check on fri so hopefully she can offer me a ocp to stop the spotting as the mini pills not working!

It doesn't affect weight. I lost 4 stones whilst I had mine.

Like I said, it can take up to 6 months for the periods to settle. So patience is a virtue with it sometimes. After 3 years I started occasional spotting but it never bothered me.

I also fell pregnant on the 3rd cycle after removal, so return to fertility wasn't an issue.

I soooooo cannot wait to get mine back in!!!!

I, too, love love loved my Mirena. Had one between all of my babies, and will have it again after this one (#4). Don't have to think about it, and my periods did stop after the first year (the ones I had before they stopped were 2-3 days and super light). With my first one, the strings poked hubby and I had to get them trimmed. But, no weight gain problems.

I have had mine in for a week and bleeding had completely stopped and now its back and heavy like a period with alof of cramping....will this get better ?

I'm curious about this too. My body is really sensitive to hormones and I get depressed very easily on BC. Anyone have any issues with hormonal changes whilst on Mirena?

I suffer terribly from mood swings on certain pills so the dr wont let me have the implant or the jab, she said that the mirena only really releases the hormone into the womb lining so not into your whole body like other forms of contraception thus making it a lot less likely to make you a crazy woman!

I was on the Mirena for 4.5 yrs before comming off it to TTC. Like many of you i turn into a crazy madwoman when on other forms of BC but the Mirena helped with this. I got some cramping when having it put in but wasn't too bad and i had constant spotting for the first 3 mths. After that i didn't have a period for a couple of yrs, when they returned they were very light and only lasted a few days. I think it's great and would go on it again.
