Im really craving fish and chips, is the fish used to make it safe for baby?? Yumm, I need it. Lol. I wish I could make it at home but it sounds like a lot of work. Lol

Different places use different kinds of fish, but I'm pretty sure all of them are in the low mercury category (cod, tilapia, haddock...) so go for it!

If its good ol battered fish from the chippy all ok to eat, i get bad cravings for it at least twice a wk haha! Midwife said cod is ok yummy x

I wish we had fresh fish around here..fresh is so much better. Oh well. :)

I love it when we go up north to see relatives and can pop to chippy and get proper fresh fish battered it just melts and falls apart when its fresh. Have to have iron bru from a glass bottle if possible as well. Its not great were we live the fish is just not the same. My mum used to batter fish at home it was lovely. No one really has chip pans anymore.

My Mum does maisiemoo! Her chips are epic!

I actually fancied fish and chips today and got cash out, but OH has been held up so we're going to have them tomorrow. We still drive to the same chip shop I used to go to with my grandparents. It's the same family and everything. Best chips around by a mile (apart from Mum's obviously!).

I'm normally a rock and chips girl, but I was thinking about getting a saveloy today. I haven't had a saveloy in years!

as long as its not shark or marlin go nuts!

Pinkie88 - I've just realised where you are from. If you get the chance to come to the UK you must visit a proper chippie. It will knock your socks off! :)

Yummmmm. I could so eat fish and chips right now.

May have to indulge tomorrow. The main advantage of living by the sea- proper fish and chips ;)

I have always wanted to visit the UK! My best friend is from England, maybe he will take me sometime. :)
The fish and chips ive had at a restaurant here (at least in the town where I'm from) are frozen and I'm pretty sure there are preservatives and definitely MSG in them. YUCK! If you can't get fresh fish, maybe you shouldn't attempt making fish and chips!! Lol.

I'm sure he would and I bet his has a favourite place to get them from! That restaurant's fish and chips sound very disappointing...

In terms of making your own, a lot of chefs on the tv in the UK use beer to make their batter. Google people like Jamie Oliver and James Marsden, or have a look at the BBC Recipe site. You're bound to get a few recipes that will be yummy.

Last week I was craving Fish and Chips soooooooooo bad, but I'm in Egypt and they don't even know what it is here let alone make a decent one so DH & I bought some fresh fish and did it ourselves.

It was delicious, complete with mushy peas my mum had bought me from London LOL mmmmm it was so nice!

I was just sitting here thinking "hmmm I'm not hungry yet. I usually am by this time." then I read this and my mouth is watering and my stomach is grumbling. I grew up eatin only fresh fish other han what my family froze for the winter. I don't know if there's a difference in the way the US makes their fish and chips an the UK. I've had some delicious ones where I grew up (Alaska) and am curious if they're much different han UK.

Seeing your post has made me want a fish sandwich! Weird, I don't usually like fish that much!

I've been craving fish and chips to!
Mmm
Lathered in salt and vinegar!

Oh I miss fish and chips!

When I went back to the UK a few weeks ago, I had some but our regular chippy wad closed so we had to go to another.

Disappointed much :(
