Sorry for the rant but I need to let this out it is starting to get me down.

I found out back in October that I was being made redundant from my job of 6 years which was well paid and permanent.
I then found out early November that I was pregnant and redundnancy followed in December.

I therefore ended up pregnant and without work and np chance of good maternaty pay.

I have been working for an agency since the begining of Jan but the pay is not so good and the hours are not guarnteed. I can work a full week, or just a couple of days or nothing at all. I have just been told that it looks like there will be no work now until after Easter :nope:

I called in to the job centre for some advice this morning to be told that they could not help me, all the info I need is online. I thought this a bit odd, it would be nice to have someone to speak to face to face.

I got home and had a look online to find out I dont seem to be entitled to anything at all.

My husband is in full time work but all his money goes towards bills and previous debts.
My wage usually pays the mortgage and I really dont want to get behind on that

Our baby is due in July and Im so worried that Im not going to have the money to provide for her properly and keep up with bills.

It is all just so confusing and stressing.

I know just how you are feeling, we are in the same boat!

You should be entilled to Maternit Allowance but thats about it.

We are entilled to that and nothing else, not even housing benefit or council tax benefit but i am being reasured that this does change once the little ones are here :)

I would say try not to stress but if you like me, thats not going to happen xx

Its just so hard. I have been in work since leaving school, never claimed a penny and now that I really need help I cant get it.

I cant stop crying today and I know I need to calm down for my baby's sake but I cant and I dont know what to do.

Hi hun. I'm in a similar posititon as you. I was made redundant at the end of september and must have fallen pregnant literally the week after. I'm currently on Job seekers allowence and haven't been able to find any work. I've been looking for temp and permanent work, but nothing has come available, although I've had a few interviews.

My partner is a builders labourer and his work hours can vary from one day a week to a full weeks work or nothing at all. As his wage isn't great we have been able to put in an application for housin and council tax benefit but we are struggling.

Could you make an appointment to see someone at Citizens Advice and see if they can advise you if you can claim anything?

I know I should be entitled to the Sure Start grant (£500.00) to help us buy things for the baby.

We're both worried about money too, but there's nothing we can do.

Please try not to stress and worry too much. I know it's incredibly hard not too as it's a huge weight resting on your shoulders and is always niggling away at the back of your mind. Some one should be able to help you though.

Have you been to your bank and sorted something out about your mortgage repayments. I think there's something available that will cover you when your redundant, but I'm not sure though.

Please let us know how your getting on. We're hear to listen to you if you need a rant at any time. Sending hugs your way hun.

Thanks girls I am feeling a little better today.

I have spoken with the jobcentre this morning and I have an appointment to go see someone on Friday regarding jobseekers allowance.
Still not sure if I will get much as Im classed as employed but just dont always get the hours all the time.

Just a shame Im not entitled to council tax credit or anything else. They say my husbands wage is too high for that.

But things are looking a little better now, at least I will have someone to speak to face to face.

Are you not entitled to working tax credit?? We get that as my partner works full time and im unemployed.

I did a survey online which has said Im not entitled to working tax credit as My husband works full time and has a high wage. ( i did not think it was so high)

However all of his wage is spent on bills, all I have to pay is the mortgage but Im not getting enough to even do that now.

I have been to the job centre today and Ive been granteed job seekers allowance as Im working less than 16 hours a week.

I have put my CV out to loads of places too so fingers crossed things will get better soon.
