So yesterday while working (hehe:thumbup:) I went shopping and we went to Matalan and I was looking at all the baby clothes and I looked at the white newborn babygrows and vests and they seemed to be of a good quality. I looked at the information on them and they don't seem to be any different to the mothercare ones and you get a lot more for your money.

I know mothercare might be made slightly better but these newborn outfits will only be worn for a few weeks...is there any point in buying mothercare just because of the label?

OH disagrees with me- he says when they're that young you want to give them the best, and he thinks cheaper stuff will fall apart

I'd agree with you, if the quality appears good, then I would be going for saving money. Like you say, the outfits will only be worn for a short time. I'll certainly be looking to save on items like this x

We had a few matalan things with dd and I was vey very happy with them. The quality was good - as good as mothercare IMHO - they washed really well and were huge in size!

I have bought several new sleep suits from matalan this time and have totally boycotted m/c this time as I feel it's over priced

I've got baby clothes from everywhere! Matalan, primark, next, mothercare, tesco, sainsburys! You name it I've probz got something from there! They're only in them a short while and as long as they feel and look comfy, I don't see the problem :flower:

Mothercare is so overpriced its unreal! Iv had clothes for the kids from matalan and they have been great quality x

i would be bankrupt if i shopped in mothercare lol. Asda, tesco, matalan and primark for me. The baby wont be in clothes long enough for them to fall apart lol and ive never had any probs with the quality from these shops before x

I LOVE the baby clothes in mothercare, hate the prices though!! I've decided to get just a couple of cute outfits from mothercare and the baby vests/essentials from places like asda, asda do some amazingly cute baby clothes, already purchased a few from asda! :D

i find mothercare over priced and tbh most of the stuff is prob made in the same factories iv got my little one stuff from asda ,primark , store twenty one, got a few bits from mothercare and some from babies r us x

I would imagine mothercare are nicer quality and might last longer but i wouldnt buy baby clothes from there are they are overpriced. Ive got most of my vests and sleepsuits from asda and tesco. x

I found many cheaper places to be just as good especially when they are that young n grow out of stuff over night, the only problem iv had is with asda and primark vests they seem to get misshapened after a few washes but iv never had any problems with there outfits, now sophie is a bit older and things fit her for much longer I tend to get more things from places like next and gap x

I will be buying all my babies sleepsuits & vests from either mothercare or next this time.

With Alfie i bought clothes from all over, next, asda, tesco's, h&m, mothercare, babies r' us, debenhams etc. I found the cheaper end stuff especially the supermarket stuff had big necks on them so my LO was always cold round his neck & chest. Plus they miss shaped when washing, they were cheap yes & easily replacable but i just wasnt very happy with them.

I'd rather pay that bit more when they are small & have good quality that fits right. I even managed to make some money back on the higher end stuff as i resold it on ebay in bundles. I would have had no chance of doing that with the supermarket clothing.

I have clothes from everywhere and the only way you can tell the difference is by looking at the labels. His mothercare sleepsuits are good because they have non-slip feet but that's the only difference and sainsbury's do the same for a lot less. Have never noticed an issue with neck size or mis-shaping with anything. The asda sleepsuits are actually softer fabric and stay soft after washing whereas some of the more expensive ones (mother care and M&S) lose their softness.

I've also bought baby bundles on eBay which have supermarket stuff in so a lot of it is on its second wearer and still going strong.

I've not bought a single thing from Mothercare and don't intend to. All my clothes so far are from Matalan and Asda! I just pick things up that I like. Why pay more for the same thing that's only going to be grown out of in 5 minutes anyway?

If people want to buy me stuff from there though they can go for it :haha:

i don't think theres any difference really... after all there not gona be them for 2 long. when it comes to name brands i'd spend more on things like jackets and shoes. :) x

Hiya, when I had my first i did go to mothercare but not for babygrows and things, I did buy a few coats and dresses which were hardily worn. I have washed and saved them and may re-use them depending on the gender of this baby.

I have had no problems with buy baby things from other stores, mothercare is over priced and I tend to only go there if I am looking for something special, if you know what I mean.

However I heard that they are shutting down there stores in the news?? You may get a bargain then xx

I think mother care is a rip off for what you get for the money... honestly it's probably made in the same factory as any other baby clothes, your just paying for the name brand.... aren't there like 300 mother care shops going out of business over the next year or so because they are losing money? people aren't bying into this "the more expensive the better" bollocks anymore, people don't have the money to throw away on something that they can get at asda or matalan for a lot cheaper...

*stepping off soap box now*

I was at asda a couple weeks ago with my MIL and saw a lot of super cute things for under £10... So I will be looking for afordable things, babies throw-up and make messes on their clothes... what is the point in spending fortunes on them?

I brought summer clothes from matalan for my DS a few weeks ago and the quality is so good and they are massive so will fit him for quite a while. Will be buying from there again! I will be getting alot of sleepsuits from charity shops tho as for 50p each you cant really beat it aslong as they are in good nick! The only thing i pay alot for is my DS's shoes only ever go to clarks.

I've bought vests/sleepsuits/bibs/mits from the likes of Primark and Asda, bought a few packs from Mothercare too and some from Next but they arent in them for two minutes so paying £16 for three sleepsuits when you can get three in asda for £5 is a bit overpriced. Saying that I have bought outfits that have cost £50 per outfit then bought another for £6 an outfit. I buy what I like, I'm not a brand snob.

We've bought things like vests/onsies new, from a mixture of places (mothercare/tesco/asda/etc). We've also bought some pre-loved. I think the quality these days is pretty similar :flower:
