I knew i had 2 nappies missing, and today i found them. Damp, soiled, in a carrier bag in my bathroom.

One is a brand spanking new tutto, worn once, and one is a WN custom :(

The WN has 'stalks' of mould on it... and white furry fungus stuff. the stalks look like beansprouts, and broke off like mushrooms.

they were white, but had gone black with decay  they were a couple of inches long, and thin - just like beansprouts. how dangerous is this stuff???

i have stuck them in the machine, but i think im gonna have to throw them away :(

Does anyone know what type of mould that could be, and if the nappies are able to be saved?? The tutto didnt look too bad, it just stank. but the WN :nope:

Help :(

Oh no :(

Give them a couple of good washes and see how they look. Lots of powder/washing liquid, lots of rinses.

I wouldn't normally suggest it but if it was me I think I'd be tempted to napisan them.

i dont have napisan :(

Its on a standard rinse now, for 30 mins. then im gonna wash the crap out of them, then again... then rinse some more.

 poor pretties

Can you get any? I don't own any either but I know our boots and sainsburys sell it. Just to make super extra sure they're all sanitised from the mould. Someone else might have better advice though.

ive looked in our local sainsburys before and it wasnt there, the tesco is just a garage so they wont. :(

gonna see how they are, but he wont be wearing them for a LONG time until im sure its all cleaned off... it looked AWFUL :nope: x

I would definitely get something like Napisan. Are you sure your Sainsbury's doesn't sell it? Check the laundry aisle and also the baby aisle. I don't remember where it was in mine but it was somewhere I didn't expect I think! I would wash them on 60 degrees a good few times as well as using something to sanitise them. Perhaps contact WN and Itti and see if there's anything they recommend. I know Cotton Babies (Bumgenius) say it's ok to bleach their nappies every now and then.

I know bleach isn't normally recommended but in this case I would say its the only thing that will eradicate fungus this bad. Give it a good scrub and soak in bleach then wash normally again and rinse rinse rinse. Good luck.

the only bleach i have is domestos

they have had 2 washes with full detergent (2 nappies on their own in the wash, so it was pretty bubbly!) and 3 rinses. the inserts of the tutto are greeny grey in patches, near the end (where they were snapped together, touching the WN) , so i might just bin those as i have spare - unless bleach would help those too?. the outer has a tiny patch of spots on the inside where the front snaps are.

the WN is fine inside the pocket, where i can see. the mould is on the embroidery (doesnt help that its black :dohh:) and i can still see little bits of fluff on it.

would soaking them in hot soapy water overnight help  then a hot wash tomorrow?

our local is the flagship one so its bloody massive... i couldnt find olives for 3 weeks, so i will look again  the staff are as good as useless, especially with obscure cleaning products.

is there an alternative, like lemon juice or vinegar or something...

I'd chuck them to be honest. Mould spores are bad news at the best of times, and I don't know if you can ever really get it out of fabrics :hugs:

Is your domestos just a branded bleach? If I would definitely use that. I worked in a cleanroom before and whenever there was mould problem we gave it a deep clean with bleach. I think it's the only thing I would trust to gt rid of the mould spores completely.

i thought that too :(

Reckon i can rescue the tutto but the WN has had its day i think

so annoyed. we only used it once .. cant blame anyone though, the culprit is in the desert, and i should have remembered on the day we brought it home :(

I rescued a mouldy PUL wrap by adding 60ml regular chlorine bleach to a 60C wash, as per advice from whoever runs Flip's Facebook page. I think I'd be prepared to throw away really badly affected nappies though.

White vinegar and sun-light for mould
And personally I'd soak in bleach for 24h too

Not noticeably on one soak. We use napisan in a lot of our washes, you're not supposed to soak pul in it, but i think one time should be fine.

ok, well ive washed them again this morning, and im going to let them dry so i can see how bad the damage really is... i will turn the WN inside out somehow too... see what the inside looks like. the tutto insert is royally screwed, i might have to lose one of those but i can rescue the little ones i think. the tutto outer is almost clean though so that should be OK.

going to buy some napisan when i can find it... will soaking them in bleach not discolour them? The WN is black.. when i spill bleach on my bath mat (also black) it went orange. I dont want to ruin it any more #

thanks for the white vinegar trick, i will see if that helps at all.. failing that i will just bin all the tutto inserts, they arent expensive to replace. x

heyley was in a sainsbury's today, napisan was in the baby aisle next too the sippy cups, bottles ect, not near the nappies lol

i tried there last time, not only is ours huge, its confusing too... the staff had no idea where some basic things were :dohh: took me 30 minutes to find dolmio sauce

i will look in the big tesco near my mum, they tend to have a more logical layout

io dont really want to buy a whole thing of napisan when im only going to use it once  i dont think its very good for nappies, and as we dont use any fitteds ALL of our nappies have PUL in... im not really gonna need this afterwards.

Oh no :( I'd chuck them too i think.
