MTHFR, necessity of Heparin injections??

First of all ladies, thank you for taking the time to answer or read this. Second, I wish you all the best and luck in ttc and pregnancies. I have mthfr, compound heterozygous and would like to know what testing can be done to see if heparin injections are necessary in pregnancy. Maybe checking homocysteine levels?? I am 9 weeks pregnant now and hate to take them if they are not needed. I will do what I have to for a healthy baby though.

I'm very sorry for your losses. I didn't need blood thinners for my pregnancy (low dose aspirin was enough), but I was part of the PARL thread (pregnant after recurrent losses), and many ladies there have MTHFR, Factor Leiden V, APA or APS andneeded/need blood thinners, and many of them had healthy pregnancies and delivered healthy babies. So in your case, blood thinners can be a life saver for your baby. Are you also on high dose of folic acid?

I am on a daily baby asprin, pregnant or not. I also take folate. I just wonder if I also need the injections? And what lab tests could tell me if it is necessary? Thanks for your response.

You'd have to see an hematologist for the injections. Every woman is different, but I think blood thinners are the standard procedure for pregnant women with MTHFR. Ask your OB to get a referral (the sooner the better), but I have no if you'd need further testing and how much it would cost (I'm from Canada so it's a little different when it comes to insurance)
