I laid him down in a way where he couldn't roll off the couch, turned my back for a millisecond to move something out of the way, and as I turned back he did a somersault onto the floor :cry::cry:

For the first time, he moved from a laying position to a sitting position, but I think he reached for something and tipped over. the sound of his body hitting the floor and the way he looked, and then the wail that came from him had me in hysterics :cry:

it took 10 minutes to calm him down. called the doctor, she said to wake him every 2 hours to be sure he doesn't have a concussion, now i can't sleep!

:nope: i can't believe i did that!! OH lectured me instead of being supportive. ugh, what a terrible day!!

Don't worry I did the exact same thing 2 wks ago! I felt terrible. I took LO to the doctor cos I was worried and got him checked over and he was fine. I've learnt my lesson though now I know he can roll off the sofa I don't put him on it any more!

I've definitely learned mine, too! And I know this isn't uncommon, but it definitely makes me feel like a terrible mother...

OH could have been a little better about it, but instead just lectured me on treating LO like a 6mo instead of how he looks-- like a 1yo.

Oh you poor thing :hugs: I know exactly how you feel! The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. She had never rolled before and I was standing in front of the sofa to fold up her sling, I lifted the sling and Thud!!! I looked and she'd rolled off :( I rang my mum crying and she said, it's happened to all of us don't worry! LO is never left on sofa now here either x

Aw hun I felt exactly the same the first time Fran fell off - she's come off the sofa 2 or 3 times and the bed a few times too! It's one of those things that happens hun, don't beat yourself up about it! They cry a little but they are tougher than they look. From 6 months when they start getting active they are going to get up to all sorts of mischief - Fran has just turned 1 and I swear she is going to be a stunt person when she grows up!

It's all part of them exploring and learning boundaries and about the environment around them.

Just you wait until you've got this to contend with.....................

:hugs:

I think it happens to everyone at some point! I'd put my LO on the bed and before I could even fully turn my back, she'd wriggled and fallen off, head first into the bin! I just screamed, "Oh my God! My baby!", grabbed her and held her out to my OH cos I couldn't bear to look in case she was hurt.

It's WAY more traumatic for us than it is for them! Don't beat yourself up over it, it's so easily done. X

:hugs: Shame on your OH! He should have comforted you! Mine almost tumbled off the couch and I caught him as his head was millimeters from the floor! Bumps, bruises, and scrapes will happen. It's not your fault :hugs:

same thing happened to me when she was 6 months. she was fine, I was hysterical. OH gave me a lecture too.

I think they cry at the shock more than being hurt.
My LOs fallen off a few times now, but he can get off the sofa if I hold his leg to guide him down, sometimes he just doesn't wait for my help :haha:
As said, it gets worse when they get active. Banging heads on tables, letting go of things and falling back lol
hell my dad dropped me down the stairs when I was 2 and I'm fine :D

:haha: I'm sorry fascination, I've pmsl at that!! The picture of your LO going headfirst into the bin!! :haha: Altho I'm quite sure it wouldve been very traumatic for you at the time :hugs: x

It's easy for OHs to lecture when they aren't at home all day with the baby eh?! Let them try it and see how long it takes for them to turn their back for a second and have LO fall !

dont feel bad. my first son fell off the bed at that age and was fine too. these things happen. glad hes ok.

:hugs: It happens to EVERYone at some point. There is nothing to feel bad about. Your LO will be just fine. And far worse things are to come. :argh:

I don't mean to make light of it -- the first time that happens, you totally freak out and feel like the worst mom ever! :dohh:  I still remember the first time it happened to my DS. Awful.

Then you fast forward about a year and falling off the couch is such a minor thing. You wonder how it ever got you upset in the first place. :haha:

This was my DS after he fell head first off our snowmobile trailer on to concrete for the SECOND time. Why was he repeatedly allowed to play on said trailer? I don't know. You'd have to ask his father.

His lip was so split that it took 4 months for it to fully heal.

Now if one of my kids falls off the bed or couch I just say "CRASSSSSHHHHHH!!!" and laugh at them. That usually means they will laugh, too. And then go do it on purpose so they can hear me say crash again. :dohh:

OH MY GOSH! I would be terrified to take my son out of the house after that... right now I'm already thinking the state will be involved if I have to take my son to the ER for a little bump, but I can't imagine him looking like that! I am so glad he's okay... and you said your OH let him play there... oh, I can just imagine my OH being all self-righteous now, but a year down the line, taking our son to do something dangerous.

:hugs: I'm so glad all of your LOs are okay, too! According to the doctor's we're not sure my son's okay yet, but in 2 nights time we should know.

Thanks! Something like what all of you said is what I was hoping to get from OH... sometimes, I swear I'd do better with a girlfriend as a second parent than my OH!!

:hugs: kaisuten - your LO is so adorable I want to hug him SO MUCH! I hope you and he start feeling better soon. I know my little guy is going to bump himself quite a bit.

Mine rolled off my feeding pillow when she was a month old. A tad higher up that the couch...plonked right onto her forehead. I though I was going to have a meltdown. I thought I had a hold on her, but was really holding the pillow. I felt awful...but thankfully she was just startled. So if it helps, you're in good company. :)

Thomas did the same thing off our bed last week. I was in hysterics. Thomas was fine!! It's so common, horrific when it happens but more often than not baby is just shocked :hugs:

Oh yeah totally forgot! Congratulations hunny :hugs: I smelt things no-one else could before I found out I was pregnant too lol!

I can't express how much your replies all mean to me :hugs: Every day I look at my little boy and I am just reminded of him plopping face-first onto the floor and I want to cry.

But, he really is okay! I guess I just get caught up in the possibilities of what could've happened, and man what could've happened was bad...
