We just walked in from the vets and got some great news - her paws arent fractured at all, she just has really really bad sprains, possibly the worst theyve seen. Theres still a possibility she may need surgery for her tendons because they stretched so far but theyre giving her a week to start walking. They gave us anti inflammatory medication and pain medication and told us to do cold compresses and not let her run or go hard on them for atleast 2 weeks. The vet was shocked and had to get 2 other vets to look and make sure she wasnt missing anything. Everyone at the office loved her and couldnt believe what a great dog she was or how well she was handling things.
We have to sling her to let her use the bathroom so hopefully we dont have any issues with that. The vet was very hopeful though and said this was the best POSSIBLE scenario - when we initially went she didnt even give this as an option, she had said best case scenario was atleast her left paw was fractured but would only need a cast a no surgery so we were very pleasantly surprised. Instead of it costing $3000 plus the $600 we paid earlier today the whole thing only cost $690. We didnt want to bring her just for a sprain but I'm glad we did because now we know what to watch for and how best to care for her and shes got pain medication so she can relax more.
