I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks in 2011. Six months later I had a chemical pregnancy. After that, I stopped ovulating and having a period. This went on for about 10 months.

I discussed with my OB/GYN about fertility. She wanted to check to see if my tubes were blocked. Since that would require a procedure, my husband and I agreed that we needed to go forward with seeing a fertility specialist.

So, my husband and I went to the fertility clinic of the first time in April of this year. Before checking to see if my tubes were blocked, the doctor wanted to see if he could get me to ovulate. He felt that since I had gotten pregnant before, the changes of my tubes being blocked were low. He also explained that, if fertility medication did not work, I may opt to move forward with in vitro rather than checking my tubes.

The doctor wanted to be conservative with the fertility treatment at first to see how my body responded.

In April, he wanted me to begin Provera to start my period, followed by 100mg of Clomid on days 5-9. Ironically, I started by period on my own. On day 14, the two or three follicles were only 10-12mm. I think it took until day 19 or 20 to get the eggs to be around 20mm. Blood work suggested that I did not ovulate that month. BFN

The next month, the doctor tried 150mg of Clomid, again on days 5-9. On day 14, he saw no follicles, so he tried the stair-step approach. Meaning, I began Clomid (100mg) again for 5 days. On day 20, there were 4 follicles, ranging from 9-13mm. It took until day 30 or so to get a follicle around 22mm. I did a trigger shot at that time. A blood test a week later confirmed that I ovulated. BFN

The next month, both my husband and I were out of town for trials. So, I did not take fertility. I still monitored by ovulation and the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor showed that I ovulated on day 14. I could even feel myself ovulating. My husband and I were together during that time, however, the month ended in a BFN.

The next month, I meet with the doctor and decided to go full force. The fertility specialist also wanted to let the follicle mature longer. We did Clomid (stair-step), followed by a trigger shot and IUI. It, again, took until around day 28 to get a follicle at 25mm. I triggered at the doctor’s office that morning and we did the IUI the following morning. Unfortunately, the month ended in a BFN.

This month, the doctor decided to take it up a notch. We did 150mg of Clomid on days 3-7, followed by 100iu of Follistim until the follicles matured. On day 2, I went to the office and the baseline blood work and examine were done. I was given the okay to move forward. On day 8, I went to the doctor’s office. At that time, I have one follicle on my right ovary at 10mm and three on my left at between 9-11mm. The nurses showed me how to given myself the injects of Follistim in my stomach. I went back for monitoring every other day. On day 14, I was ready to trigger. On my left ovary, I had a follicle at 19, 16, and 15. On my right, one at 16. He wanted to go ahead and trigger the 19 before the others caught up. I triggered that evening (a nurse at my office gave me the shot) and we did the IUI 36 hours later. Three days later, I began progesterone pills.

Right now I am in the 2WW. I have to go in to the clinic tomorrow morning for blood work to confirm I ovulated. Then I go in a week from tomorrow for a pregnancy test.
