Well my MIL keeps saying that 'Evelyn' will be shortened to 'Lynn'. If anything, I thought it'd get shortened to 'Eve' or 'Evie' both of which I think are cute but my MIL saying that it might get shortened to 'Lynn' has kinda put me off...what do you think?

I also love the name 'Tabitha' but don't think OH is as keen!

my cats name is tabitha :haha:

i dont think it would be shortened to lynn.
its a nice name :)
xx

I'd say Evie would be my first thought, although a friend of mine Evelyn gets called Ev'. If you go for a name that is almost certainly going to get shortened I'd get in there first and shorten it occasionally to your preferred nn.

I think it depends on what you shorten it to - if you abbreviate it as she's growing up as Eve/Evie then the likliehood is that others will pick up on that. I can't imagine abbreviating the name to Lynn xx

I doubt anyone would call her Lynn, unless they heard you saying it...

Evie would be my first thought...

Pretty name... although i prefer Tabitha

Thank you! I don't really want to shorten it at all but I know that people will. I do think Evie is cute though so we'll get in there with that! xx

I know an Evelyn and she gets called Eve. It was also my Nan's name and she got called Dora! (no-one in her family seemed to be called by their actual names...)

I know a kid called Evelyn who's short name is Evie. Noone thinks of Lynn first. =/

I know 3 people with the name Evelyn and no one calls them Lynn. 2 of them are Eve and the other is Evie. Yeah I also agree that no one would call her Lynn unless they heard you say it.

If it was to be shortened I'd say it would probably be Evie. I know someone called Tabitha and she gets called Tabby or kitkat because of the cat connecton.

I had/have the same thoughts with my son's name. I really don't like the shortening of Oliver but I know people will eventually start calling him Oli.

maybe in your mil's day it would have been shortened to lyn but now id say it would be evie or eve
