Hi guys,

I hope you don't mind me barging in here as I am only NTNP at the moment but I have been stalking this section for a bit and have finally popped up the courage to post.

Basically I am NTNP at the moment but will be TTC after my honeymoon this September. My problem is I am not having periods. My doctor has diagnosed me with Post-pill Amenorrhea as I stopped taking my pill July 09 but haven't had a cycle yet. I had an ultrasound and that ruled out PCOS, and bloods ruled out any hormonal imbalances. But now I'm stuck, my doctor has basically turned to me and said "Well I have no idea what to do". - Say whaaaa?
Just wondering if any of you have been in a similar situation or are not having any periods naturally and what was the next step taken, as I have been told to go off and try and come back in a few years .
Thanks so much for any advice.

Just because you do not have periods does not mean you are not ovulating - unless you had blood tests that confirmed you weren't ovulating. I know a lot of people will disagree with me but I know someone who never had a period and conceived two perfectly and now gorgeous babies quite easily.

As much as the doctor does not know what to do he can refer to a gunaecologist who will know what to do. However to refer you most GP's over here like you to be trying for 12 months before they will refer you however, some will refer you after 6 months. Doctors can give you tablets that will enforce a bleed.

A lot of doctors say it can take 12 months to get the pill out of your system so i would probably be tempted to enjoy your wedding and if in another 6 months you have still not had anything then go back to yoru doctors and insist they refer you to a gynaecologist x

I would like to clarify something that people kept saying to me. I know, for a fact that the pill gets out of your system in approximately 3days. What takes time is for your body start again on its own. I took my 3months to have my first natural period.

Is your doctor a familly doctor or a gyn?
If it's a family doctor, go see a gyn.

Go see a RE. I was just like you. Hadn't been trying for a full year yet, but I am not having cycles after the pill. I saw my RE yesterday and he said that I do not ovulate, and have probably never ovulated (I was never regular before the pill either).

He's putting me back on BC for 30 days to force a cycle, and then I will start taking clomid on days 5-9 and go back on day 22 to check progesterone to see if the clomid made me ovulate.

They checked all my levels and stuff, and he told me that sometimes there is no "known" reason for anovulation. It's just the way my body is.

Its a family doctor, and I was irregular before I went on the pill, 7 months here, 2 weeks there, but since I was just a young teen I never really tracked them too closely.

I am fine with trying for a year before going back, as I understand TTC can take its time and to be honest we aren't really in any rush since I have plenty of years in me, I was just wanting some advice on what the next stage would be if say, 2 years down, nothing happens as there has been no sign of nothing happening as of yet. Or if anyone had been in my position since I feel a little bit un-womanly at the moment

Thanks very much for all your advice, and Ermm23a hope everything goes well! Yeah my doctor said there is no reason why I shouldn't be working as all tests came back fine, I guess I will just have to go back next summer if nothing happens and see what they advise.
