What can you give a 3 week old child for oral thrush? Need to know asap, mum needs to get it before she goes to work in an hour. Thanks in advance!

I think you need to get a prescription hun. Why dont you just ring your local chemist and ask the pharmacist.

You need a prescription after a doctor has had a look.

Yeah its mostly given by a dr, reason being that it can be something else ..I would suggest going to the clinic and get it checked out.. to be safe :)

You need to get a prescription for Nystan oral suspension. And if you're breastfeeding get some fluconazole for yourself as well. The oral gel isn't recommended any more because there's a risk of choking for young babies and I don't think there's anything else you can buy over the counter x

Thanks girls, have made an app. for this afternoon. Poor mite's been screaming every time we try to feed him, then screaming in hunger 'cause he can't suckle :(

Hope you managed to get something hun x

Actually you don't need a prescription...for us the prescription didn't work at all causing it to get MUCH worse for both of us (I was nursing)...gentian violet is something you can get at a health food store and it works great for thrush...on both of you. It does stain purple but will come off their skin and mouth completely within a couple days but clothes it does stain so be careful but it works sooo much better

Are you asking about the gentian violet being available in the UK? That I'm not sure about, I would imagine so, it's not a drug or anything, just all natural stuff...but I really have no idea, I wasn't thinking about that
