Ok, my husband has left me for another woman and I don't work as I have 3 young children, aged 1, 2 & 3. I am in rented accommodation and we were entitled to part housing benefit due to my husbands low income and he paid the shortfall but now he is gone I don't know what I am supposed to do. The average monthly rent for a 3 bed house is £700 but according to the local council, they only pay a maximum of £550 a month. I won't be able to find an extra £150 a month to top up the rent and I know that I can't rely on my husband so now I am worrying about what is going to happen to me and the kids. Am I supposed to leave the area to one that has cheaper rents ?
Does anybody have any idea ? I am really stressing about this. x

You can apply for a discretionary housing payment or dhp.

This is paid by the hb dept to help people who have a shortfall in there rent. The assessor will assess your dhp based on your circumstances. They will ask what your incomings are and also your outgoings. It may not cover all your shortfall but should help cover a large amount of it.
