:hi::hi::hi:Hi Everyone,

My name is Louise, I'm new to this site! Hubby and I are 24 and 26 and have been TTC for about 13 months and we're currently going through Fertility Testing in Adelaide. Got referred by our GP and just today I had a HSG done (a lot worse than I thought it was going to be!) and Pelvic US. I had 21 day bloods last cycle and just had my baseline testing today as well as I am CD 6.

I get really bad period pain, as in excruciatingly bad so wondering if I have Endometriosis and may need a Laparaoscopy which I'm more than happy to have if it helps! GP talked about PCOS but I don't have any of the symptoms, but then again I guess you don't need to to have it!

Is anyone else going through fertility testing or been through it recently and wants to share/give any advice? My follow up appt with FS is late Jan as he's on holidays! I can't wait to get the ball rolling!

Please tell me about yourselves and share your stories...infertility is a bit of a taboo subject, no one tells you how alone you'll feel!

Thought I'd say hi I'm from Brisbane..I'm a bit older than you had my test for fertility done this month and got some bad results which would be expected at my age(38).So yes it is a taboo subject and people don;t know what to say and if they do they say the wrong thing like "oh you'll be fine". they don;yt get it...
the thing I would say is you do have a bit of time where as I don;t, my age a real worry:(.we have been told IVF our only hope but my gut tells me surely not... but its quite possibly all we have.the thought of that is incredibly scary can't talk to my mum and I have tried my sister who had IVF in 2010 and she won;t talk to me about it says its past history can't remember.had a gorgeous little girl but thats the only kids they will have.To think you're own family won;t talk about it is frightening..

so you see even some families won;t talk..I came across stupid female gps who didn;t even care ,one who hadn;t even thought to test my AMH only my fsh, told me I had plenty of time not menopausal and one who did test my amh and said I have no hope basically....and was cold and ruthless..I was on the pill for along time for skin issues and got married in early oct this year .been off pill three months:( that hasnt helped either..very scary

I hope your journey is smoother its a difficult time and you will need support I hope you get it unlike me:(

Hello!! Welcome! :)

As for me, I wasted almost an entire year with a Nurse Practitioner who proved to know close to nothing about infertility. I was referred to her by a friend who'd TTC for over a year with each of her pregnancies and found success by going to this woman. I didn't get an ultrasound until six months into seeing her and it was because I had what I thought was an ovarian cyst rupture and demanded an U/S. I went to every appointment with a checklist of questions.

I asked her everything from PCOS (which she said I "don't have" based on one(!) blood test she ordered after my first appt.). She had no clue was AMH levels were and told me that I didn't need them tested because "those are only going to tell you if your parts are shaped weird." Uhm...what?! And on what became my very last visit, she stopped me mid-question/answering to say, "Adopt. Just...ADOPT!" I wanted to get up and walk out. Instead, I've started warning people that if you get the impression your person (whether nurse in my case or specialist) doesn't know their stuff, don't waste as much time as I did.

End rant! Haha.. nice to "meet" you though! :)

:)Hi Tessjs, I’m sorry to hear you got some bad results and that you’re feeling a bit scared! Are you worried in general about the IVF? I have one woman who I used to work with maybe 4 years ago go through IVF, I messaged her this week and asked her about her experience (her son is 3 months old). She is 36 and got pregnant her second cycle, she got pregnant her first cycle as well but MC. She said it’s the best thing she ever did and she found it less stressful than TTC naturally as it was all in the Dr’s hands! So I guess the positive is that you can still do IVF and I really hope you have lots of success with it.

My gut feeling says my FS will just prescribe clomid and to keep trying for 6 more months and it won't work and I don't know if I'm strong enough to take anohter 6 months of disappointment :nope:

It is scary when family won’t talk about it! You would think your sister would be wanting to help you out but I’m guessing infertility makes some people act very strange and is a real sore spot when in reality I;m finding it’s SO much more common than we think and woman (and men) should support one another! I haven’t told my Mum as she will just write it off and then hound me but not in a supportive way! And OH’s parents are ‘know it all’s’ and I dread ever telling them too!
UGH some Dr’s should NOT be Dr’s due to their tact level, they should need to study a few more years and learn some manners!!!
Thank you, I really hope everything goes smoothly for you from here on, sending lots of positive thoughts and goodluck your way, happy to lend an ear if you ever need one! No one should ever need to go through the pain of infertility feeling unsupported!!!

Hi miss_awesome, Ugh how annoying, I can’t believe someone would string you along like that and not try everything to get to the bottom of it! It shouldn’t be ALL your responsibility to ask the right questions and demand testing! To be honest sometimes I don’t even really understand the tests and just hope they’ll explain it to me if I need, I probably should be more proactive though, there’s just so many!
So are you still having testing? Any luck with answers since those quacks? How inconsiderate for her to say adopt! Not what you need to hear when TTC at all!!! And good advice, you need to trust your Dr or FS! Mine seems good so far, only had one visit with him and go back for my results and where to from here so that will be the real test for him!
How good is ranting!!! Glad I can do that on here now!!! Nice to “meet you also” :)

Where do I start? I'm new to the site and this my first post..
Excuse my spelling if i happen to spell anything incorrect. Ive been with my boyfriend for four years now and we are planning on getting engaged and having a baby.Im 22 years old,at the moment and would like to have kids young due to unknown fertility issues and health reasons.Ive done my yearly pap twice this year (June and October)I had my first ultra sound on November 1rst 2012 following the sonohysterogram on Dec 19 2012. The sonohysterogram was painful for me ....I took the antibiotics prescribed and 1 ibuprofen... when the saline was inserted was the worst part for me.. I could barely take it,and now the doctors said my uterus and everything else looks healthy, they think my tubes are blocked because they didn't see the liquid go through them. And i heard from a nurse hes one of the best doctors,he says that the other doctor is gonna call me to set up a appointment with the results and options and a he mentioned a Hysteroscopy. I was wondering if they can do a tubal cannulation? And does a Hysterosopy hurt?

I haven't been to see anyone else since my last appointment with her, but I'm bound and determined to get my husband to go see an RE with me. I guess there's a doctor in our city who does IUI and IVF for a fraction of the cost of others around the country. I was also told by a friend I didn't even know was TTC that he's awesome (she actually left the same clinic where I was going to the NP and was seeing someone else there years ago--such a small world, I tell ya).

I was irate when she told me that though. Right after that she said she told her step daughter the same. She went on about how that woman is "much older" than me and is infertile. She said one of her bio-daughters has four kids and she told the step-daughter to spend more time with the one who has kids and maybe "drink the same water" as that girl. Basically, for someone supposedly helping some women with infertility, she's quite insensitive. I hope your FS stays awesome though and helps you conceive! :)
