Newbie here, 27mths and unfortunately counting

Hello everyone.

New here so looking to gain some friends and advice along the way.

I'm 27 years old and as of this month me and my partner have been TTC no.1 for about 27 months now. I'm not going to pull any punches these past few months have been unbearable! Everywhere I look I see babies and nearly always it's followed shortly by

Well recently I found out that my next door neighbour is pregnant with twins through IVF and she has encouraged me to go back to the docs (previously been and had my bloods done - all clear and working fine). I've now got an appt at the FS in three weeks time, and I've just had lots of different swab tests done (results due next week). Really nervous now as it seems to have brought it all home to me that this could be a very long process. I must admit when we first started out we both thought we'd have a bfp within the first few month, then a year came, then two, and now we're still counting

Does anyone have any advice? or general information as to what will happen at this first appt?

Just wanted to say hi and welcome. Sounds as though you have done the right thing asking to be referred to a specialist. In some ways it is reassuring to feel as though you are actually doing something proactive. Good luck

Hi there! Welcome to this section, so sorry you're over here..as none of wish to be here. Nonetheless, it's a WONDERFUL group of ladies we have here. So just jump in and start replying to posts!

This appointment they should be going over the blood tests results with you. Next they need to schedule an ultrasound to check for PCOS. After that comes the appointment to get dye inserted into your tubes to see if they're open. In addition to that I would strongly suggest getting a Lap done of where they go in surgically and check for endometriosis. I almost didn't have one because I had no symptoms of endo, but ended up having it! So it pays to get thoroughly checked, you need to know the answer as to why you're not conceiving like a normal couple. Also somewhere in there your OH needs to get a SA done. It's usually the best of 3.

I agree with Bluebell bun. It's nice to know you're doing something more than you previously were. You know what they say about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Seeing a FS gave me a chance to hope again.

Seeing a FS can be bitter sweet, yes it's great that testing is being done but if they then lump you in the unexplained group and advise IVF is best option but not possible due to funding then not so great

Be prepared to ask lots of questions, my FS doesn't seem to like the fact that I have basic knowledge of hormones, cycles, charts and general fertility but I figure that if I don't push no-one is going to do it for me.

Armywife were you offered a lap? I requested it and was told it wasn't necessary Although I don't have many symptoms a few members of my maternal family suffer with it and really wanted to rule it out. NHS don't want to give up any extra funding though

Yes, he recommended it since we're considering IVF. I had no symptoms and none of my female family members have it. Needless to say I was shocked.

Oh dear , what's the cost for private in the UK? I read in America it averages anywhere from $1700-$5000.

Hello! Just wanted to say good luck and you are doing the right thing, it might be a long road (though of course I hope it isn't for you) but it will be the right one.
