Hi ladies - after a bit of reassurance if possible!

Had some spotting last week and was booked in for early scan which I had yesterday. Had vaginal ultrasound and they saw a gestational sac at 6w4d, exactly right by my dates, but no fetal pole or heartbeat.

I freaked out but the Dr said that it was inconclusive, rather than bad news, and that I had to go back next Monday for another scan. I really thought you would always see a yolk sac and pole at this stage?

She says all women are different and that she can't say one way or the other yet.

My mood is wildly fluctuating now! One the one hand, I'm pleased the gestational sac measures exactly right, as guess if baby had died the sac would have stopped growing? On the other, I don't understand why the sac would not have a bean visible?

Please help - success stories and encouragement only if possible, as have a whole week to go and am under instructions to remain positive. Feel sick and so scared...please help if you can :cry:

Didn't want to read and run. I am not sure exactly on what it should be. However, I do think that it is a ray of hope that your doc said that it could still be ok. They see these sorts of things almost daily so her opinion is good to have. I hope that all is well and when you go back on Monday you see a nice little bean. Good luck! :hugs:

Wish I could help but I had a scan at 7wks and I imagine those few days can make all the difference. Don't give up hope though, this sort of things happen to a lot of ladies on here and end up with beautiful babies :)

Hey

I don't have any experience with this but as you said the sac wouldn't be measuring as your dates say....

Sometimes it does take than the "norm" for things to be visible so early on in the pregnancy - try and relax until the next scan as worrying will only stress you out which is not good for you and LO.

Think positive thoughts! Has the spotting stopped now? Are you having any cramps? or had any?

Put your feet up and really relax. Let us know how you get on. Hope some ladies here will be able to offer you reassurance based on experience as it's always better to hear it from someone who has gone through the same thing x

Thanks - spotting stopped after 6 hours or so, and no cramping at all so thta's a good sign, I think. My mum also says that the NHS wouldn't spend money on a 2nd scan if there was no hope, they'd just say 'sorry, you're going to lose this one'. I'm taking a few days off work (v stressful job!) and being lazy until scan on Monday...and asking everyone I know (and a few I don't) to think positive thoughs for me!

i had a scan internal today it acually took the nurse a bit to find it even internally .. and had to route around a bit .. she was also gona give up and get a 2nd opinion then suddleny it was there ! am im 7 weeks.. maybe you little 1 was jsut hiding like mine try not to worrie aslong as your not bleedin or cramping painfully u wil be fine hun xxx

stay positive sweetie - the fact he said inconclusive rather than bad news is a big positive - thinking of you x x

i was scanned at 5 weeks 6 days with my little boy and there was nothing but a dot no baby they could see at all not even a gestational sac they could measure... was rescanned 2 weeks later and there he was heart pumping away happy as larry in there, i wouldnt worry if the doctor is happy enough with what they can see then you're looking good :-) think its hard at this early stage to see very much at all but if theres a gestational sac measuring bang on for dates thats a very good sign :-) try to relax x

Hi,

Like the other girls on here have sad do not worry, I was scanned at 6+1 and seen a heartbeat but no yolk sac. As this is my first pregnancy I have no idea what that means but just going to be quietly positive!
x

Thanks ladies - I really appreciate your support! Any more?

Hi im going through the same at the moment!! Had some brown blood when i wiped on monday and a little yesterday when i wiped. It canbe normal as i spotted brown with my daughter for 2 weeks and was told at 7 weeks i was actualy only 5..Went back 1 week later and saw her liccle heart pumpin away..xx

when things are sooooo early its really difficult. a few days can make all the difference. i was told by my GP that doing scans before 6wks is generally avoided because 9 times out of 10 there is nothing to see which causes more panic. the earliest you can 'see' anything is around 6 wks, although things will still be very small. try and rest up, relax and i'm keeping everything crossed for you :hugs:

try not to panic.. i had a scan two weeks ago at 6w2d and only sac was visable to the doctor he siad not to panic that 6wks is far too early and it only makes people panic, said the sac was measuring a good size and as far as he was concerned it was a 'continuing pregnancy' nothing to worry about.. he organised rescan for this morning, now 8w2d and guess what.. perfect little heartbeat fluttering away on screen, all is good and hopefully will continue to go that way.. i know its so hard not to worry, i was so nervous the last two weeks but in all honesty its out of our hands now what will be will be and i'm very sure you'll do just fine :) :) big hugs xx

Billiejo I think I love you!! So reassuring - you were only 2 days behind me and Dr saw only sac then all ok....phew!!

Thanks all xx

heres hoping for you. I had similar happen with my first; it just needed another week or so to show up xx

you will be fine.. i know i was wreck the first couple of days but then i realised i cant do anything else about it, am doing all the right things and all we can do is wait
i started reading books like newspapers anything to keep the mind occupied and i had a self imposed google ban .. seriously dont do it!!! you'll be fine honey just you wait and see :) :) xx

didn't want to r&r
i'm sure you will see a little hb at the next scan.
best of luck x

thanks again, starting to feel more relaxed now and also going for the google ban. Google bad!!!

Morning! :happydance:

Delighted to report that scan today showed baby and heartbeat :happydance:

last week there was just a gestational sac measuring 6w4d - today a whole baby - what a growth for 7 days! They think bean only measures about 6wk, so I could have got my dates wrong but I suspect that so much effort went into growing this week that it's a bit out. :happydance:

no more scans till 12 weeks - no reason to think anything is wrong at all!!

:cloud9::cloud9:

Thank you all for your support, especially NosyCow and BillieJo who gave me hope when I was FREAKING! This is for you :flower:
