Hey ladies,

Any advise as to how i can stop obsessing about not ovulating?

I started temping last month and they were all over the place. My story in a nutshell:

October - came off the pill
November cycle = 24 days (6 day AF)
December cycle = 24 days (6 day AF)
January cycle = 28 days (6 day AF)
Feb cycle = 28 days (12 day AF!!!!!)
March cycle = 37 days (6 day AF)
April cycle.......????????

Between Oct and Feb we used condoms as decided not to start trying til Feb (long story) so really this is only the 2nd month trying but is also the 2nd month I started temping and from the temps looks like i didn't OV at all!

I also tried OPK this month and have all been negative.

I have had no EWCM......

I am so miserable because my friends are trying (one of them is 20 weeks PG now) and people keep telling me "ooh it can take months of trying" but without eggy's I don't even feel like we're "trying" yet????

Here's my charts.....

Any advise anyone???? Thanks for listening :)

PS anyone else having similar problems who wants a buddy to get through this with??? xoxo

abic77, I would try not to think the worst at this point. To me it looks very likely that you're ovulating!

  • First, I see a temp shift indicating ovulation in both charts! Temperatures are often high/variable during your period, so you should not pay much attention to those days.
  • Second, some women's temperatures just are not very drastically different pre- and post-ovulation, and you have to remember too that a lot of environmental factors can affect your temperature and throw the chart off. For example, that higher temp on the 17th day of your last cycle could have been an aberration due to waking up in the middle of the night, eating or drinking something different the night before, etc, etc.
  • Temperatures aside, your cycles are really not that irregular, especially coming off the pill so recently, so that's another indication that you're ovulating (per my doctor).
  • OPKs can also be unreliable because sometimes the LH spike occurs and disappears in a 12-hr period, so you may not catch it even testing every day!
  • Furthermore, lots of women don't get a ton of EWCM, and some don't get the textbook ideal, classic EWCM at all. You have to pay attention to your own cycle--your fertile period will be when you have the closest thing to EWCM, and that may be just noticing increased wetness. And according to your chart, you've logged a few days of wetter CM right around when your temp shifted, so it's very likely that's when you ovulated!

From my experience, I know it can be very frustrating when no matter what you look at, nothing is 100% clearly telling you what's happening with your body. It's easy to get bogged down in the data, start worrying, and just see a big mess. Then you're stressed, which isn't good for your body either!

Like I said, there are a lot of reasons (consistent with ovulation!) for the issues you've noted. Give yourself a couple more months, be patient with yourself, and continue keeping track. If your cycles get long (35 days or more), make an appt to see your gyn and they can help you determine if you're ovulating. You don't need to wait a year, because many women need help to regulate their cycles after coming off the pill and any good doctor will take you seriously (especially with as prepared and knowledgeable about your cycle as you are).

In the meantime, I would keep thinking that you ARE ovulating and act accordingly! :)

Good luck. I know it's difficult, but I really do believe, from everything you've said, that it's much more likely you're ovulating than not.

only thing i can suggest is start usung opks from the day after af ends make sure you dont use fmu and maby test twice daily you can get 30 opks from amazon for about £3 i ovulate quite early on and missed it for months cos i was testing from day 12_13 but i ovulate cd10-11 so dont give up hope and we only ovulate 10 times a year good luck x

Hey chicky, I had a similar experience last year and in the end plucked up my courage to see the GP for a blood test - some will refuse to do one before you have been trying for a year BUT if you tell them you have been religiously doing your BBT and haven't had a surge they should do one.

Don't despair if you aren't ovulating, I was prescribed clomid and now ovulate every month! Are you taking your temperature at the same time every day? If you aren't then this will make your results pretty much unreadable. I hate BBT as it is so stressful and you worry about each and every post ovulation temperature.

PS I would also start taking a supplement such as Evening Primrose Oil to help with EWCM and Starflower oil to help stabilize your hormones - this should help get you back on track post pill. Just make sure you stop taking both once your ovulation has been confirmed as it can cause uterine contractions.

It's totally possible that you are simply ovulating late. It can take up to a year after coming off bcp for your cycle to settle. On top of that stress (even something like your body experiencing a minor earthquake that doesn't mentally stress you out) can delay ovulation. It's not over until AF shows. Hope it goes well for you.
