I recently got my nuchal test results back with a result of 1 in 280, which according to my hospital is classed as low risk. I was a bit worried about this as I'm 27 and should have a background risk (with no testing) of 1 in 1000. When I spoke to the midwife she said something in my blood was increasing the risk as the nuchal measurement was fine (2mm at 13 weeks). She said my levels of AFP and unconjugated oestrogen were low and thats why the risk was higher than expected. I'm a bit confused as I didnt think the combined test (which I had) took AFP into account?
I just wondered if anyone here has had a similar experience? I'm really worried as to what might be causing this. I know I'm still classed as low risk but cant help worrying and thinking the worst! I'm going for another scan next week to look for soft markers but this still wont give me a yes or no answer, the only thing that will is an amnio which has a higher risk than the DS risk, and I dont want to risk miscarriage. Plus I wont be offered it anyway.
Has anyone had anything similar happen? Any advice would be greatly appreciated x
