Edward has just been put on this as he has a lactose intollerance. Problem is...he hates the taste and won't drink it. He pulls faces, gags, heaves, pushes it out of his mouth.

Anyone got any tips on how you got your LO to take it after normal formula? xx

my lo was offered this, but the dr made a mistake and he wasn't lactose intolerant just needed gaviscon for a bit.

i did read one lady's post about using it and she said she put an once in the feed with normal formula minusing an once of normal formula i.e if the baby takes 6oz, 5oz of normal formula and 1oz of the other stuff to gradually get it into their system and then keep doing it but up the onces after a while, while dropping the normal formula onces iykwim lol

it might be worth asking your hv though as im not sure if thats how its meant to be done

good luck with it it is stinky stuff!!

Chloes just been changed onto sma lactose free at 7 weeks old. With us it was just perseverance, it tastes like smash so I can understand why she didn't like the taste in comparison to normal cow and gate. As we started chloe's milk in an evening, I found that night feeds when she was still half asleep she took to it better and by the morning she'd take it fine. Sorry this doesn't help alot but eventually he'll take to it, I think it's just a case of them getting used to the taste.

i think louise1302 uses that milk hunny so maybe ask her but i know she said it smells horrible, we used sma lactose free which didnt seem all that different to be me and she took to it much better, helen1234 gave rhys soya milk and he wouldnt drink that but he went onto sma lf and drinks that fine now

I had this problem. Have you smelt the stuff it smells horrid no wonder they dnt like the taste lol. What was suggested by my HV is to put a bit in at a time. So if your baby has 6oz put 1oz of nutramigen then 5oz of previous milk. HV told me to wait 5 days before upping it but i only waited a day or 2 and she was fine. It took Alyssa to get better when she was fully on the milk so dont expect it to work until your LO is only taking the nutramigen. hope that helps x

my baby has been prescribed this too (started it today) as she is intolerant to cows milk protein.

it smells and tastes awful! i tasted it and it was pretty vile.

when i am feeding my baby my toddler will (if given the chance) run off with the bottle and have a sip or too. he did it with the bottle of nutramigen milk and you should have seen the face he pulled when he tasted it - what a picture! said it all really lol.:haha:

i have no tips really. i suspect he will just get used to it over time. his taste buds aren't really developed so if he's hungry he will take it. it is vile though lol. :hugs:

You can ask for enfamil, my niece and cousin were lactose intolerant and they was put on Nutramigen which is very thick if it was left to stand it seperated. They both moved onto enfamil and had no problems you can get it from most pharmacy i think if you want to try it before you get it on prescribtion. Hope this helps!

My son was put on this several years ago due to milk allergies. His doctor told me to gradually introduce it to him over a couple days. He was taking 6oz per bottle so 4oz reg formula, 2oz nutrimagen for a few feeds. Then 2 oz reg, 4 nutrimagen, etc. til he was changed. This formula was a lifesaver!

my LOs on this as she has cows milk allergy. never had a problem taking it but she is a pig!! my HV said if she doesnt like it there are other alternatives on the market, im sure she said aptimel do one which has a bit more taste, but as i said my LO takes it fine

Connor is on neocate and it smells disgusting. He refused it at first but we just had to keep perserveing with it, can understand why they dont like it though as it smells disgusting

My ds is on nutramigen and when we went to see his dietian we was told to flavour it with tiny and i mean tiny amount of milk shake syrup but watch as some flavours of it contain milk products you have to read the label. Hope this helps x

Lorelei is on nutramigen, she was on SMA Soy 1st but the HV advised not to use as very high in sugars. Try doing the mixing a bit to see if that helps, he will take it if he is hungry enough ! lol. xx

Mika is on Alimentum (the same as Nutramigen, just made by Similac) and the stuff is vile smelling! He didn't like it too much at first, but as his reaction to milk proteins was becoming severe (wheezing and difficulty breathing) the Dr. wanted to make an immediate switch.

I would just give it some time. Mika is a greedy little piggy so it didn't take him too long, but he did eat a bit less in the beginning.

im bf but topping up with ff, i found my lo is allergic to sma gold, cow and gate and aptamil and now on soya milk but switching over to lacose free so i think my son will be on this....soya milk smells awful so is it even worse than that! is it any different?

Hi All, I have been feeding my lo Nutramigen since Wednesday morning so for over 2.5 days and although she will take between 2 - 4 oz at a time, it soon comes back up in the form of projectile vomit. Did anyone else have this issue as Im scared she is going to starve (she used to take 6oz of Cow & Gate hungry baby every 3 - 4 hours). Her screaming episodes seem to have eased a bit but we now have a lot of crying during / after feeding which is a lot of times a day now and she won't settle on her own very much. How long does this vile stuff take to work? Also, how did you all find out that your lo's had an intolerancy bacause I have been told there is no way to know they have one but that it's trial and error with formula's? aaagggghhh

my lo was on it but now he takes normal milk as he just needs gaviscon xx
i gave it to him when he was hungry and took it fine after a while.
it is vile stuff!!
