So my son is now a year and just wondering how and when I introduce the above. I would probably do honey on toast and maybe the prawns in a fish pie.

Nuts i am not to sure on. My mum is allergic to peanuts and carries an epi-pen. I am partial to the odd slice of peanut butter on toast. But extremely cautious about little boy trying it. Not sure if I should just avoid all nuts all together. But from my understanding I think it is the second time they are exposed to nuts can lead to a reaction?

Any advice appreciated x

What about honey in porridge or yogurt? As for nuts, you might also try some other nut butters, cashew butter, hazelnut butter, etc. I know nut allergies are nut allergies, but it might be reassuring to start with something that isn't peanuts. And what about some grilled or sauteed prawns. That way they are easy to pick up, as they would make great finger food if your LO is good at feeding themselves. I think no need to hide them in a pie.

Peanuts are actually not nuts - rather little known fact! - they are legumes. So even if you are concerned about a possible peanut allergy, you don't need to be worried about other actual 'real' nuts. So go ahead and give almond butter a go or something like that.

Also, I had a childhood egg allergy so I was concerned about introducing eggs to my LO, but we bit the bullet and gave him eggs and he was fine. I spoke to health professionals about it and was told that especially if I was eating eggs while breastfeeding he would be introduced to the proteins via my breastmilk, and also something about research showing no need to wait unduly long or some such, I can't remember! Anyways, he was fine. To be honest I would just give him peanut butter and get it over and done with, especially as you eat peanuts and are fine. If you're really scared, maybe do it in the hospital car park or something! It's not always the second time people have an allergen that causes the reaction.

We started peanut butter at 6 months, not allergies in my family though. As for prawns, Thomas loves them in sushi.

Haven't tried LO with honey or prawns yet as we never have them in the house anyway but she's tried smooth peanut butter and loves it. I'd be wary with a family history of allergies though and would speak to a doctor first.

One of my uncles' has peanut allergy but no-one else in the family does and all mine have been fine with any type of nuts. From 6 months ground or very finely chopped nuts are ok for most babies. Even before we were vegan we didn't eat much animal protein and so ground nuts and nut butters I always saw as a good source of protein and essential fatty acids xx
