Before I post this pet peeve, let me just say that my syntax structure is not always perfect. Also, when I post from my phone instead of a computer, I do sometimes not add in the capitalization and punctuation that I should.

So, I am by no means saying our posts should be perfect! But really poor grammar is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. I'm talking the kind of mistakes that just make a person sound completely uneducated.

I'm not talking about slang either. More like the misuse of contractions (in sentences, not pregnancy ;) lol ) and things like that.

For example:

"We was going to the store." as opposed to "We were going to the store."

or

"Why don't no one care?" as opposed to "Why doesn't anyone care?"

I know this is a pointless rant. I really hope I don't offend anyone. I completely know that I am way off on the things I type most of the time too but errors like the ones above just get under my skin.

It's probably just the hormones talking. We have to have something to complain about, right? lol.

Sorry for the rant.:flower:

Sorry this is a pet peeve of yours, but some people barely know how to use a computer or really don't know the correct spelling and or proper way to put sentences together. Hope you dont let it bother you too much.

OS, congrats on being double digits, only a short time away from lo being in your arms!

Thanks :) I am very excited.

I am truly not a critical person in general so not sure why this gets under my skin. I guess we all have our stupid pet peeves. :p

Oh my goodness, I know what you mean. I've been a grammar Nazi for as long I can remember. I even used to correct my teachers all the time. I felt like a loser for correcting my creative writing professor in class because she's got her Ph.D and I'm a second year college student. >.<
Anyways, the misuse of the words "your" and "you're" get me EVERY time. Also, "there", "their", and "they're".
Sorry if I ranted for a little bit there. I have a lot of southern syntax in my writing as well because I grew up in Texas, but I try not to get things bother me. Sometimes it's just so hard!

Ohhh me too lol. It reaaaally annoys me, especially on facebook! And I tell you what really gets my goat is "sore" and "soar" my friend complains about other people spelling wrong, etc and then everytime she's ill she posts "i have a soar throat" and I'm like arrrrghhh soar is like soaring in the sky!

My name is Zoe, and I'm a spelling Nazi too

I accept that people type fast, and obvious typos don't bother me in the least. Hell, I'm no doubt guilty of typos myself, my fingers don't go as fast as my brain.. but spelling errors? There's really no need. Most sites have spell checkers and it takes less than a second to input a word into Google to double check.

Also, your and you're, their, they're and there make my teeth itch every single time!

The biggest peeve, by far, is text speak. I simply cannot understand it at all, and generally ignore all posts written in this manner. Abbreviations and acronyms on a forum such as this don't bother me, and they do make posting marginally quicker, but using text speak like an illiterate child is by far the most bizarre craze over the last few years.

I sound old and past it.. :dohh::blush:

These threads never go down well, and for good reason.

Maybe some people have dyslexia? Never went to school? Have learning problems? OR maybe people just come on here for relaxed chat and don't go over every single post they make to see if they spelt something wrong?

Be grateful you can 'spell' and don't make a mockery of those who can't - sometimes through no fault of their own.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I certainly am not making a mockery of those that cannot spell!

And this site flags up errors as you type them, so you'd see them instantly rather than having to go through your posts to check.

And, one of my very good friends is dyslexic with very poor results from mainstream education and he's an accomplished writer! I think you're doing those with dyslexia a great disservice by assuming it results in poor grammar and spelling.. It can, but many go to great lengths to overcome the barriers and write far better than those that simply cannot be arsed.

My brother is dyslexic aswell as my Dad. My Dad is a programmer, who works for Microsoft, and Apple - i know they aren't stupid, i know what i am talking about

Anyway, these threads are offensive and pointless, hopefully it will be locked soon like all the others.

Sorry, just to clarify, it actually doesn't. Nothing to do with the site itself, it's your web browser that does this :)

I dont think there is any excuse for the "text/TXT" spelling you read from time to time, more often seen on facebook than on here though i have to admit.

But, there are many people who simply do not know the correct spelling of something, myself included(im far from the being the best speller), i suppose we could go onto spell check to find out,but its a bit long winded when you just want to do a quick post....maybe im just lazy though!

I just thought i would add(after reading other posts) my husband is also dyslexic, his grammer is appalling so i can see how this sort of post would offend him, but on the other hand, he's not stupid, and has done well for himself in his job (and has done far better than i ever managed to achieve).

I can be pretty guilty of just typing quickly and hitting post without checking. Predictive texts are the worse, I'll often arrange to meet people in the sub (pub) or arrange to go out for a neck (meal)... I know it can drive my friends mad!

I do hate it when people use slangy text speak in emails though, I guess I am just not down with the kids in that respect.

I don't think anyone is getting at people who can't spell and sometimes I post and if I don't know the spelling then I think "stuff it". I find it quite irritating that we can't express some pet peeve incase someone takes it completely out of hand. I guess maybe it's because we can't tell over the internet how people mean things, like what tone of voice they are using.
For instance, when I posted I was merely expressing my annoyance to a friend that complains of other peoples spellings and then goes and continues to make the same spelling mistake over and over, even when I have corrected it lol!
I guess everyone is hormone crazy but it's really annoying that threads keep turning into arguements and heated debates :(

Sigh.

I never called anyone stupid, nor would I. It's a hateful word. I also never meant to offend, so I'm sorry if I offended you.

However, we all have things that annoy us and saying so really shouldn't be a cause for upset and long as it's kept generic. There are many posts on here that I think are 'below the belt' as it were, yet I still appreciate that we all feel differently about a wide range of subjects.

There was no malice intended in this thread, or certainly not in my posts at any rate. But hey, offence has obviously been caused and once again, I apologise.

I am very guilty of typing too fast also, luckily friends know what i mean most of the time!.

A friend of a friend on facebook winds me up no end - instead of 'home', she types 'ome'. I find text speak like wud, awesum, wiv, rite, etc incredibly irritating. Its one extra character!

Typos are one thing, but text speak that barely makes sense is just lazy!
