My husband made a fat joke at me this morning. At 17 weeks, I don't have a proper bump, but I am expanding outwards. I more look like I am just gaining weight rather than actually looking pregnant. I'm starting to get a little bummed out about it, especially since I've always been pretty trim. This morning I mentioned it to him while I was looking in the mirror.

He responded with "Hey, this is the only time in my life I'll ever get to call you fat. Don't take that away from me."

I KNOW he was kidding, 100%, he would never say something like that to me and mean it. But it was a pretty low blow. I've been really down in the dumps since I found out a friend of mine died yesterday, so I was already pretty bummed out when he said it. I almost started crying and just squeaked out "Please don't call me fat."

He realized his mistake, immediately apologized and hugged me, but he also better be bringing me flowers when he gets home tonight.

Bless his heart, he was just trying to make me laugh, just did it in completely the wrong way.

It's alright honey, we're all here for you :) Im at 15 weeks and my belly has grown from a 26 to a 36! I haven't been binging out or anything but my friends recently compared me to another friend of mine who's 20 weeks with twins and we're the same size about the same size.. My husband teased me too, saying that I was growing fat. Maybe you should just take awhile to talk to him about how you're insecure about your body at this point of time, and he'll grow to be more understanding about it!

It's alright, keep positive and soon you will receive your bundle of joy (which would probably come in fats too, a fat child you'll love like no other fat you've ever loved!)

Press On!

Oh bless him! Men really do say silly things dont they! My fiance does the same says things that i find really quite offensive, now i can laugh at myself iv always had to because my mum and dad are terrible for below the belt joking so iv been called lard arse (even when i wasnt overweight!) for the majority of my life its water off a ducks back to me lol but my fiance once made a joke about my loose skin, hurt like hell, i know he was playing but i wanted to cry my eyes out, he apologised straight away too i think they really dont realise how, much it can affect you do they! I think it bothered me more because it was him and he doesn't do that to me, hes the one person who doesn't make fun of my weight or anything about me so it came as a shock! I bet your husband is still feeling bad about it now bless him! And its good that you see he was just trying to make you laugh, i bet you look wonderful hun try not to worry your carrying something very precious, im very sorry to hear about your friend hun x

Sounds like your DH had the same sense of humour as mine. They do say all sorts of stuff that if were repeated would sound really mean....but we know that it's all said in love.

At 17 weeks I was still getting people surprised that I was pregnant. Actually I would say I am just starting to look pg and I am 28 weeks. I was told that it looks like I was bloated and needed to poop!

Your belly should round up soon. Although they do say that if you are carrying a boy, you gain all your weight in the front and with a girl its all around the belly. Maybe it's a girl!

mine calls me fattie or 'Hodor' and it is quite funny.usually i am quite nifty on my feet having been a ballet dancer in a previous life so he loves to see a softer rounded side of me now i have lumpy lady bits....... i started it anyway as we saw some mannequins in new look that were obscenely emaciated but had bumps to model the maternity range, i made a joke and said 'ew look those models are fatties, really let themselves go' so it stuck with me that when i got pg he called me fattie (not that i am even close to having model like proportions but i prefer fattie to preggo which is ghastly imo)

it was when i was trying to get out of the very low sofa at his folks and he jokingly said 'come on fattie, sort it out' as i was struggling that his parents had a right go at him. i felt bad.

bless. they do try their best. but agree, if it upsets you then flowers had better be there!!!!!

bless him, I don't think they realise what they are saying until they've said it.

my hubby knows how I feel about gaining weight, i'm over weight never have been, but the thought of gaining so much weight scares me and he knows that, so he tends to distract the fact that I do have a bump with rubbing it and saying awww baby.
people at work how ever don't really know my issues with weight so latly keeping oh my god aren't you getting big or you can really see your bump now how far along are you? i'm also in my 17th week and feel more like i'm getting fat then having a bump.
with my boys I had only just started showing at this point and was just a ball, with this I started showing very early on and i'm all round.
