we have an old gas fire in our livingroom. it's REALLY ugly and i hate it. is there any kind of covers i can buy for them? i can't find anything! we don't use it at all, so i'm not bothered if it completely covers it.

it's in the background of this picture

any suggestions would be great :flower:

Could you not buy a radiator cover for it... its should cover it, you can get plain MDF ones and paint them yourself from homebase.

Love your wallpaper btw. xx

hi, we have one like that its minging we cant do anthing with it as its a back boiler and will cost around 3k to move it all, and we cant put a radiotor cover over it as it gets to hot wen we have it on, so we have just go some tall vases in front of it and flowers, x

I'm sure you can spend less getting rid of your back boiler and it's well worth it as they are hideously inefficient! We got rid of ours in the old house (same fire as post above) and got a coal effect gas fire set in the chimney breast and a condensing boiler fitted elsewhere. We didn't need to change the radiators but we did opt to get thermostatic valves fitted whilst the system was drained. We bought the fire ourselves, about £180, and the rest of the work cost about £1200 and was excellent! We've got a normal boiler here and I'd love to get it changed but it still works fine and we've no money. Ditto to changing our monstrous gas fire we never use as I'm convinced it spews out carbon monoxide.

r u in council ?ours was making the carbon thingy got off so they replace it with electric cos there not allowed to put gas in now they said x

yours is the same as ours but yours in better looking condition. ours is terrible, its all bent and out of shape at the top! our landlord refuses to replace it though. ill be watching this thread to get some ideas x

i'd love to have it removed but it's private rented, so no can do. thanks for you ideas :flower:

Me? I'm not. It's my own house so can't get things changed! Lol

Salvage if you're not using the fire you could cover it with anything. Measure it up, maybe a small one of those radiator covers would fit.
