My preemie is 10 days from turning 10 months. If he wasnt born 8 weeks too early, he would be almost 8 months now. A few weeks ago, he learned how to crawl which is a big advancement. What I dont understand is if he knows how to crawl, how come he cant sit unassisted? He would only sit with his hands on the floor to support himself. Now that he knows how to crawl, he wont even want to sit. He would just go straight to crawling. Does that mean my baby would never know how to sit? I put him in the stroller when we go out and he tilts sideways because he doesnt know how to sit. This is giving me a headache because I am concerned for my baby but I dont know what I can do? Even the doctor said regardless of the fact that he's a preemie, he should at least know how to sit. Even most 6 months old know how to sit and his adjusted age is 8 months. Can someone please tell me what I can do? He's doing fine otherwise except for the sitting. I see other babies his age sitting, some even younger than him and it breaks my heart. I know I shouldnt rush him, and I did give him all the time he needs but at this point its just too much of a delay.

P.S and he doesnt even have any teeth.

If it's any consolation my preemie didn't sit unsupported til nearing one - and never really crawled, she rolled to where she wanted!

Nowadays sitting is overrated

Ps my best mates 33 weeker had no teeth til around her birthday!

Thank you! He can sit pretty well in a shopping cart and he's doing most everything that he shoudl be for his age. He can hold himself up and stand...but its just the sitting. I dont want him to have to go to a special therapist just for that one problem, which his doctor said he will refer him to if he still cant sit at 1.

My 28.6 weeker didn't sit unsupported until nearly 12 months old. He didn't get any teeth until then either. :haha: It took him forever to crawl, and he preferred to roll to his destination. He is now almost 3 and above average with milestones.

Give him time. All babies are different. :)

Hi

What you will learn along your jorney with your premmie is that they will do things at their own pace. My 25 weeker is now 2years and nine months. It took him forever to hold his head, sit up,crawl, eat and the last couple of weeks we've had our first words 'steady go'. But although it takes a while it does come in their own time. Oliver is perfect and the pressure from dr's, nurses, physio's ect has stressed me out beyond belief. But i think it is only now that i have learnt and accepted that he will do it just not according to these bloomin milestones that are set.

Your baby is unique and no one can ever tell you when they are supposed to develop and at exactly what moment. :flower:

Thanks ladies. My lo is sitting unassisted fairly well now, he can even pull himself up when I lay him down in his bathtub (I still use the infant mesh thing) to the sitting position. He can sit and crawl so I no longer have any complains. Now I am just looking forward to him pulling himself up to stand. I am so proud of him achieving all these milestones before turning 10 months!
