opinion on extra scans

Hi

i am 5 weeks pregnant and just wondering what everyones opinion on having an early scan and extra scans during pregnancy.

I lost my first little boy at 20 weeks, during that pregnancy i was really ill and @ 18 weeks was in hospital and had a scan at 18 weeks to check, all was fine, but at my 20 weeks scan Harrys heart had stopped.

I am confused about going for an early scan @ 8 weeks as not sure if i could put myself through the worry but also not sure if i could wait till 12 weeks either. i really dont know what to do and just wondered if early scans and having extra scans during pregnancy have helped anyone else??

I had a mmc in Nov 2007 and had 4 scans (i think) in 6 weeks to confirm the baby wasnt developing (i almost got to 12 weeks without miscarrying so had ERPC/D&C). When i fell pregnant 5/6 months later i had a scan at 7 weeks to check the baby was developing. We saw a heartbeat and everything at that scan and I personally felt it put my mind at rest that we would be ok this time. I had my healthy baby girl Feb 09

So in my case I feel it helped keep my mind at ease we are TTC again at the moment so will request an early scan again but i am not sure if they will let me which scares me!

I have had lots of scans in this pregnancy. I lost my 1st at 7 weeks. I would say that yes it helps to no that the pregnancy is progressing. But at the same time it didint ease my worrys as the day after the scan i was back to worrying.

thank you. after i lost Harry i saw a specialist pregnancy loss counciller, i have left a message for her to discuss my worrys and maybe organise an early scan, my boyfirend has said that he would like one but ultimatly it is up to me but not sure. Also as this pregnancy does not seem real at the moment i think it might be good to have but dont know if i want one. i just feel really confused!

Loosing your baby at 20 weeks must have been horrendous, I just can't imagine. I'm sorry you had to experience that.

With regards to early scans I think the decision is entirely a personal one. I had a miscarriage at 10 and a half weeks, baby had died at 6 weeks. I did a test this morning which was positive and I'm so excited but scared as hell. I am going to request an early scan because if the worst does happen I want to know sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed for both of us.

I had an early scan at 8 weeks with this one...and it made me feel better for about a week, then I was back to stressing. I was still on the verge of panic for my 12 week, and my 16 week MW appt.... and I'm sure I'll have a hard time with my 20 week scan too though I do feel I'm getting a bit more relaxed. I'm glad I had it, but at the same time didn't find it that helpful iykwim.

I lost my daughter at 25 weeks nearly 2 years ago. I am currently 19 weeks pregnant and I have had 5 scans already. My 1st was at 7 weeks and baby was a tiny little dot, I went back 3 weeks later and the change in baby was amazing. I was there again the week after and even in a week the difference was immense and so fab! I think although it can be daunting going for scans for me it has been good because I have been able to watch my baby grow every couple of weeks.....
But it is a personal choice babe and only you can decide x x x

i had early scan 4+4 with baby t as jamie was a second tri loss...

woukd have had more if i hadnt lost him

to be honest hun your gona worry about miscarriage whether or not you have scans. The scans will help your track your progress though!!

if it helps im opting for a scan at 8 weeks hopefully one around 10 and another about 12 or 13 weeks to make sure all is good(this is me hoping not saying ill get though lol)

its entirely up to you but least if you have scasn you can know that it was healthy the last scan you did, but youl probably still worrhy about it
